David Lawson Obituary

David Therrell Lawson, Jr. CHARLESTON - David Therrell Lawson, Jr. passed away on Saturday July 15, 2023. Born June 5, 1997, in Roanoke and raised in Norfolk, VA, he is son of Louise Graham Gray Lyles Lawson and David Therrell Lawson. David attended Norfolk Academy, playing on both the varsity lacrosse and football teams, and graduated in 2015. David went on to attend Hampton Sydney College and graduated with a degree in Journalism and Marketing from the University of South Carolina in 2020. While attending Hampton Sydney, David played Lacrosse, and as a student at the University of South Carolina, he was active in the Sigma Alpha Epsilon Fraternity. David worked for two years in Charleston for Push Media as a marketing specialist, then entered Clemson Universitys Master of Real Estate Development program in Greenville. He was working in Charleston as a real estate development intern at RCB Development this summer. In addition to enjoying sports, David had a love of the outdoors, lifeguarding on the ocean front in Virginia Beach, and becoming an avid surfer, snow and water skier, hunter, fisherman and golfer. David could also often be found kite boarding off the coast of Charleston. David was also an animal lover having been brought up with his chocolate labs, a Japanese Chin and several cats. His Siberian Husky, Mako, became one of his closest friends and accompanied David everywhere. Davids beautiful, loving and kind heart was evident to anyone who met him. His glowing and infectious smile could melt the coldest heart. His laughter, wit and charm made him beloved by all who had the pleasure of knowing him. He was generous with his time, investing in his friends and loved ones. David even invested in the next generation, coaching middle school level lacrosse in Wilmington, NC, and for the Charleston Elite youth development program. He will be greatly missed by everyone he touched. In addition to his parents, David is survived by his sister, Rachel Lawson; his faithful companion, Mako; uncles, Bill Lyles III (Jeanne) and Peter Lawson (Marion); his aunt, Sutton Cox; grandmother, Rowena Lyles; and cousins William Lyles, Mason Lyles, Chris Cox, Sissy Cox, Ellie Lawson, and Josie Lawson. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Billy Lyles, Vola and David Lawson. A celebration of Davids life will be held July 21, 2023, at St. Michael's Church, 71 Broad St., Charleston, SC, at 10:30 am with interment in the historic church yard to follow. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc., Mt. Pleasant Chapel. In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to the David T Lawson, Jr. Memorial Fund of St. Michaels Church or Shatterproof Org. A memorial message can be sent to the family on our website at www.jhenrystuhr.com.

I l admired his group of NA friends, they truly loved each other and enjoyed each other´s company. Although way too short, lucky to have had him in their lives. I only met your son twice through my friend and his roommate but I want you to know that you he was so genuine and kind to me both times we met and I could tell he had a good heart. I hope it brings you comfort knowing you raised such a kind soul.

David was such a kind soul. I became very close to him this past year through the MRED program. He truly became family to all of us in the program. I am heartbroken to know he is gone, our class will not be the same without him. He was always smiling, and when I picture him, I will see that smile that always lit up every room he was in. My thoughts and prayers are with his family during this difficult time.
