Dear Loved Ones of Dr. Funsch,
I was looking him up so I could come see him when I returned to Charleston. I was his patient for several years starting as a troubled teenager. I wanted to meet with him and thank him. I'm now 30, I just recently finished my Masters Degree in Psychology and passed my exam to be a Board Certified Behavior Analyst. I don't think I'd be here today without him. It breaks my heart to hear of his passing. He means so much to me. I wish you all the very best.

Here, minutes before the clock rolls over to the anniversary of the passing of Dr. Funsch, I'm sitting here just hurting for my Funsch family and cherishing my memories of Eagles football, his great cooking, and days/nights spent with my best friend, his son Wesley on High Battery Circle.
Dave always took a liking to sitting down together either in his living room or in his kitchen. Conversations always revolved around sports, well really, football. When I played, he always complimented me and it made me feel special that my best friend's dad cared enough to watch me play my position.
Dave had such a relaxed demeanor and yet could be stern when Wes and I were being loud and stomping around or wrestling upstairs. His reactions were always calculated and I respected that.
I do miss Dr. Funsch. He and I had a military service connection and I knew he was proud of me for serving. He's a great man and he left an exemplary legacy in his family.
My thoughts and especially my prayers on this day are with each of you in the Funsch family.

My condolences to Rose and the Funsch family. Dave and I were good friends in high school - we were awarded our Eagle Scout awards the same night, we were science lab partners, and we both became interested in medicine at the same time. He was our class valdictorian and a very humble and compassionate man. We missed seeing him at high school reunions but always talked about how much we liked David. My deepest sympathies to your family at this terrible loss.

Dear Dr. Funsch's family, Please accept my sincere condolences. I, too, was a client. Dr. Funsch was always kind, empathetic, and asked thought provoking questions. I saw him Friday, spoke briefly about his Christmas plans and wished him a Merry Christmas. I got one of those brief little chuckles that he obviously is known for. I pray for God's healing and compassion for you all. Be gentle with yourselves and know that many people are holding you close to their hearts.

David, or PhillyPhanatics as I knew him, was a great man. David had a great sense of humor and was a great competitor in our fun world of Fantasy Football. He was a winner, and a fellow brother of the Philadelphia Eagles. We'll miss you David.

To the family of Dr. David Funsch,
I would like to extend my deepest sympathy and condolence. Dr. Funsch was the most empathetic and compassionate psychiatrist. I came to Dr. Funsch eight years ago just torn apart and he lifted my spirits. He was always on time and never missed a beat!!! I reflect over the years and I told him, you only understand me!!!! He listened effectively and did everything that he could do to help. Last Thursday, I told you I would see you before the holiday and you paused and said before the holiday. I said its only November and you laughed and said it's December. I said okay see you after the holiday. And I wished him a Merry Christmas and Happy New year. I never knew that was the end. They say the end is in the beginning and the beginning is in the end!!!! Well, I know you were going to retire soon because I felt it and I asked you and you did that funny laugh!!! It's going to be difficult to engage in therapy with a new psychiatrist but I will always keep you in my heart!!! When I walked in the office yesterday, I cried!!!! it was hard not to see you and when I walked in the back and saw your door closed, I realized that my doctor is finally resting!!!! It's going to be hard!!! But with God and Dr. Bachmann, my psychologist it will be alright. I hope my next psychiatrist can provide with me with the loyalty and empathy. May the Peace of God and the God of peace be with you and your family!!!! Thank you Dr. Funsch for always being there!!!!!

What a kind, honorable, and decent man! David and I worked together for many years at the Charleston Mental Health Center. He was a delight to work with...attentive, focused, intuitive, respectful of and respected by staff and clients, and had a wry sense of humor. I am so fortunate to have known this good man.
