David Epps Obituary

David Ethan Epps FORK, SC - David Ethan Epps, 90, died Thursday, December 30, 2010, at the Sunny Acres Nursing Home. Funeral services are at 3:00 p.m., Sunday, January 2, 2011, at Latta United Methodist Church with burial in Magnolia Cemetery in Latta, SC. Visitation will be held from 2:00 - 3:00 p.m. in the church prior to the service. Kannaday Funeral Home in Latta is assisting the family. Mr. Epps was born February 12, 1920, in Latta, SC, the son of the late Caroline Monroe and Silas Wightman Epps. He was the widower of his beloved wife of 64 years, Louise Tunstall Epps. Ethan graduated from Clemson University in 1941 with a degree in Education. He joined the Army a short time later and was stationed at West Point, NY, where he taught military strategies to cadets. Once discharged from the military, he followed in his father's footsteps and began a career as a County Agricultural Agent with the Clemson Extension Service. He retired in 1976 and returned to his family home in Latta, SC. He was very active in the Latta United Methodist Church where he served as Lay Minister, Treasurer, and Sunday School Teacher. Mr. Epps is survived by his two sons, David Ethan (Raye) Epps, Jr., of Union, SC, William (Mary) Epps of Lugoff, SC, and his daughter Frances (Mike) Spivey of Elloree, SC. Survivors also include five grandchildren: Anna Epps, Michael Epps, John Epps, Angie (Jesse) Rockwell, and Nichole (Andrew) Beckham; a brother, Olin Epps of Latta, SC, and a sister, Martha Frye of Carthage, NC. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Latta United Methodist Church, 306 N. Marion St., Latta, SC, 29565 or to the Alzheimers Foundation.
