David Bean Obituary

BEAN, David HOLLY HILL Mr. David M. Bean, 97, of Holly Hill, a retired Personnel Director with Giant Cement Co., died Saturday, July 2, 2005 in an Orangeburg hospital. Funeral services will be 2 PM, Thursday, July 7, 2005 in the Corinth Baptist Church with Rev. Buddy Locke officiating. Burial will follow in the Holly Hill Cemetery. The casket will be placed in the church at 1 PM. Mr. Bean was born in Williams, PA and came to South Carolina in 1947 to oversee the conversion of what is now Giant Cement Co. from manufacturing aluminum to cement manufacturing. Mr. Bean retired from Giant Cement in 1973. He was a Mason and a former member of the Easton Lodge #152 in Easton, PA. He was a Lutheran and attended Corinth Baptist Church. Mr. Bean was the widower of Mae Sutcliffe Banks Bean. Surviving are a step-daughter, Mrs. Sandra Banks Bryant of Columbia; a step-son-in-law, Katon Rush of Holly Hill; sister, Mrs. Martha Fleming of Saratoga Springs, NY; nephews, Robert Fleming of Bethlehem, PA and Richard Fleming of Port St. Lucie, FL; step-grandchildren, Jay (Ann) Rush of Holly Hill, Elizabeth (John) Shuford, Manning (Joy) Bryant, and Banks Bryant, all of Columbia; and step-great-grandchildren, Ansley Rush, Katlin Rush, and Emma Rush, all of Holly Hill, Jack Shuford and Bradley Shuford, both of Columbia. Friends may call at Avinger Funeral Home from 7 to 9 PM Wednesday. Memorials may be made to Corinth Baptist Church, PO Box 69, Vance, SC 29163 or Holly Hill Academy, PO Box 757, Holly Hill, SC 29059.
