Dave Estes Obituary

ESTES, Dave Dave Alexander Estes, 82, husband of Lillian Haberthaler Estes passed away Tuesday, February 20, 2007 at his residence in Summerville, SC. Dave was born on January 29, 1925 in Charleston, SC and was a 1941 graduate of Charleston High School. After graduation, he started an apprenticeship as coppersmith at the Charleston Naval Shipyard. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy from 1943-1949. After discharge he returned to Charleston to finish his apprenticeship at the Naval Shipyard. Later he secured a job at the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard in Bremmerton, Washington. He remained there for 25 years retiring in 1980 as a planner and estimator (Coppersmith). After a few years of retirement he returned to Summerville and has resided there since. He enjoyed golf and was a lifetime member of Miler Country Club. He is survived by is wife Lillian, two sons, Joel Singer of Redway, CA, The Rev. Jack Estes and his wife Jenny, of Bakersfield, CA; two daughters, Claire Estes Swan and her husband, Jeff, of Port Orchard, WA and Dorothy Estes Grossetti and her husband, Joe, of Albany, NY. Also surviving are grand daughters, Lillian Singer, Zoe Estes, Angelique Grossetti, and a sister, Leona Estes Lee of Summerville and nieces and nephews. The memorial service will be held at St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Summerville at 11:00 o'clock a.m. Friday, March 2, 2007. Graveside services, with military honors, will follow at 2:30 p.m. Beaufort National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials in Dave's memory are suggested to St. Luke's Lutheran Church, 206 Central Ave., Summerville, SC 29483. Arrangements were made through PALMETTO CREMATION SOCIETY.
