Darcy Ferreira Obituary

Darcy Nunes Ferreira of Terre Haute was born March 28, 1941, in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, to Izaura de Moraes Nunes and Jose Motta Nunes Filho. She passed away on Friday, Feb. 1, 2008, at 4 a.m., in Copa D'Or Hospital, Rio de Janeiro. She was married Jan. 27, 1967, in Rio de Janeiro, to Eurico J. Ferreira, in the Nossa Senhora do Rosario Church.She is survived by her husband of Terre Haute; two sons, Eurico J. Ferreira Jr. and wife Noel Strickland of Atlanta, and Claudio J. Ferreira of Chicago; one daughter, Ana Cristina Ferreira-Martinez and husband Edgardo Javier Martinez of Indianapolis; three brothers of Rio de Janeiro; three grandchildren, Daniel J. Ferreira and Sofia J. Ferreira, both of Atlanta, and Sebastian Javier Ferreira Martinez of Indianapolis.She received a degree in law in 1968, in Rio de Janeiro, and came to Columbia, S.C., in 1975, with her husband and three children. After her husband received his doctoral degree from the University of South Carolina, she moved with her family to Clemson, S.C., where they remained until the summer of 1991, before moving to Terre Haute with her husband and two children. Darcy was a generous individual, a devoted wife, a loving and caring mother and grandmother, and a good ballroom dancer. She was a Catholic and devout of St. Anthony, and a member of St. Joseph University Parish in Terre Haute. A memorial mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday, at St. Joseph University Parish, 113 S. Fifth St., with Father Richard officiating.
