Daphne Smith Obituary

Daphne Riding Smith Summerville - Daphne Riding Smith, 87, of Summerville, widow of Rev. Arthur H. Smith, entered into eternal rest on Saturday, May 26 2018 at McLeod Hospice House, Florence. Family and friends are invited to attend Mrs. Smith's visitation this evening from 6 to 8 o'clock at James A. Dyal Funeral Home. Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, May 29, 2018 at 11 o'clock at Sauldam Baptist Church, 5945 County Line Road, Ravenel. Interment will follow in White Church Cemetery, Hwy. 165, Ravenel. Mrs. Smith was born August 28, 1930 in Belmont, NC, daughter of the late Charles Elsberry Riding and Maude McDonald Riding. Daphne moved with her family to North Charleston during her teen years. The majority of her adult life was spent in ministry with her husband. She served as a pastor's wife at four Baptist Churches; Bonneau, Ladson, Ridgeville, and Sauldam. She enjoyed teaching Sunday school, working with the WMU, and many other facets of church life. Most of all she enjoyed sharing her love of Christ. She enjoyed crafts, reading, playing scrabble and being with her family and friends. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Sauldam Baptist Church, 5945 County Line Road, Ravenel, SC 29470. Survivors include one daughter and one son: Lisa S. Kister (Tim) of Summerville and Rev. Chris Smith (Tracy) of Florence, five grandchildren: Josh Kister (Molly), Greg Kister (Jennifer), Drew Smith, Maggie Smith and Lillie Smith; and two great-grandchildren: Cub Kister and Hardy Kister. She was predeceased by her three brothers: Raymond Riding, Robert Riding and Charles Riding. A memorial message may be written to the family by visiting our website at www.jamesadyal.com.
