Daniel Young Obituary

Daniel Clayton Young Columbia, SC - A Celebration of Life for Daniel C. Young will be held from 3:00 pm - 4:30 pm on Saturday, February 19, 2022 at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel. A private casting of his ashes will be held at a later date at the New River in Hinton, WV. Mr. Young passed away Thursday, February 10, 2022. Born at home in Hinton, WV, he was a son of the late Harry Lee and Edith Mae Cotton Young. He is survived by his son, Brian (Conni) grandchildren, Harper and Holt of Columbia, his son, Chris (Murray) grandchildren, Porter and Austin of Sullivans Island, SC., the mother of his children, Sue Duncan Young of Mount Pleasant, SC., brother, Harry (Susan) of Winnsboro, SC, brother, Ronny (Mary Ann) of Cross, SC, brother, Tommy (Kandi) of Hopkins, SC and special friends, Gary and Brenda Grice Wiggins of the home and many nieces, nephews and cousins left to cherish his memory. Danny graduated from Lower Richland High School class of 1969 and attended Midlands Technical College. He served in the SC National Guard 169th Fighter Wing and worked at McEntire Joint National Guard Base for many years. He later worked for the State of SC. He was a member of Lebanon United Methodist Church. He lettered in two sports at Lower Richland High School and was a proud member of the 1967 State Champion Football Team coached by Mooney Player. He was devoted to the East Columbia Dixie Youth Baseball and Softball League which played at Caughman Road Park, serving as their Commissioner and the SC General Assembly presented him a Concurrent Resolution in appreciation of his outstanding contributions to the League. He served on the Hammond School Skyhawk Club Board and he was appointed to the Recreation Commission of Richland County.
