Daniel Mixon Obituary

Daniel Lorie Mixon ORANGEBURG, SC - Daniel Lorie Mixon, 87, of Orangeburg died Thursday, September 13, 2012 at The Regional Medical Center in Orangeburg. Graveside funeral services will be held at 2 PM Wednesday, September 19, 2012 at Fort Jackson National Cemetery in Columbia, SC. Mr. Mixon was born February 20, 1925 in Ocilla, Ga. a son of the late Reason and Ester Mae Mixon. He was predeceased by his first wife, Juanita Alford Mixon. After Lorie graduated from Irwin County High School, he served in the US Army and participated in D-Day landing in Normandy, France. He was the recipient of various military citations including the Bronze Star and a Purple Heart. He was retired from Wayneline Manufacturing, a past member of the Elks Club, and a member of the VFW of Jesup, Georgia. Mr. Mixon was an avid bird watcher, having loved his time in the outdoors. He is survived by his wife Gloria Smoak-Mixon of the home; sons Daniel A. Mixon and wife, Debbie, of Orangeburg, Peter Michael Mixon and wife, Betsy, of Mt Pleasant; sister, Patsy Brown and husband, Gene, of Fitzgerald, GA; grandchildren Katy, Danielle and Christopher Mixon of Orangeburg and Michael Mixon and wife, Jessica, Marisa and Jordan Mixon of Mt. Pleasant; two great-grandchildren; step-sons John Hogg and wife, Debi, of Huntersville, NC and Bill Hogg and wife, Jan, of Corpus Christi, Texas; step-daughters Susan Spittler and husband, David, of Tomball, Texas and Mary Allen and husband, Perry, of Charlotte, NC; and several step-grandchildren. Memorials may be sent to the American Heart Association, 190 Knox Abbott Dr, Suite 301 Cayce, SC 29033, The Audubon Society, 225 Varwick Street, New York, NY 10014 or your local VFW.
