Daniel Gooding Obituary

Daniel Rudolph Gooding "Dan" VARNVILLE - Mr. Daniel Rudolph "Dan" Gooding, 60, died Sunday afternoon, February 7, 2010. Born July, 19, 1949 in Jasper County, SC, he was the son of Catherine Ann Ginn Gooding and the late Rudolph Gooding. A 1971 graduate of The University of South Carolina, he majored in journalism and minored in Economics. As his first job, he worked with the News and Courier in Charleston, SC. He went on to attend the USC School of Banking and the Banking School of the South at LSU. He was presently the Vice-President and City Executive with BB&T in Hampton and had received multiple Sterling Performer Awards. He was a member of the Hampton County Economic Development Board, a former member of the Varnville Town Council, Brunson Lions Club and the Hampton County Jaycees. He was an active member of the Varnville Christian Church where he was an Elder and a member of the Board of Directors. Dan was an avid golfer, having been a 3 time club champion at the Hampton County Country Club. Surviving besides his mother of Varnville is his wife, Faye Heape Gooding of the home; one son, Justin Daniel Gooding of Myrtle Beach, SC; two daughters: Nicole G. Bennett and husband Hal of Hampton and Sommer G. Shultzman and husband Micah of Bluffton, SC and two sisters, Margaret G. Miley and husband Robert of Brunson and Ann G. Dean and husband Allen of Varnville. There are three grandchildren, Tucker and Annie Bray Bennett, Gracie Shultzman and his beloved dog, Hampton. He is also survived by numerous beloved nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held Thursday, February 11, 2010 at 11 AM in the Varnville Christian Church, conducted by Rev. Mike Freeman. Burial will follow in the Searson Family Cemetery near Early Branch, SC. Friends may call at Peeples-Rhoden Funeral Home, 300 Mulberry Street West, Hampton, SC 29924 (803-943-3352) beginning at 5 PM Wednesday. The casket will be placed in the church at 10 AM prior to the service Thursday. Memorials in his memory may be directed to: Varnville Christian Church, PO Box 53, Varnville, SC 29944.
