Daniel Carretta Obituary

Daniel Carretta Seabrook Island - Daniel R. Carretta, 90, husband of Nancy Vaccara Carretta, passed away Monday, March 20, 2017. The relatives and friends of Mr. and Mrs. Daniel R. Carretta are invited to attend his Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM, Saturday, March 25, 2017, at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 3871 Betsy Kerrison Pkwy., Johns Island. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. A reception will immediately follow in the Atlantic Room at Seabrook Island Club, 3772 Seabrook Island Road. The Rite of Committal will take place at a later date. Online condolences may be made at www.CharlestonFunerals.com. Daniel was born October 3, 1926 in Brooklyn, NY, a son of the late William and Helen Mangano Carretta. He distinguished himself as a high school track star, graduating from the LaSalle Military Academy in 1944, and served his country honorably in WWII. Mr. Carretta's business career spanned six decades in sales promotion and culminated in his own manufacturers rep company. The Daniel R. Carretta Co. was a fixture in specialty advertising sales promotion throughout the southern states for nearly 20 years. Daniel's great passion for competitive athletics led him to compete and place in senior-sponsored golf, track, and tennis tournaments. He had 2 holes-in-one on his beloved Seabrook Island golf courses when he was in his eighties. Daniel is survived by his loving wife of 68 years, Nancy; his four Children: Daniel, Michael, Patricia, and Gerard; his 2 loving Daughters-in-law: Laura and Linda; and his 6 Grandchildren: Dominic (wife Jessica), Joseph, David, Stephen, Daniel, and Lauren. This year his first Great-grandchild, Dominic, Jr., joined the family. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to a charity of one's choice. Arrangements by JAMES A. Nancy, I was so shocked to hear yesterday at Mass that Dan had passed away. Those things I remember most about him were that he was ALWAYS respectful when I worked at the racquet club and, of course, you two riding your bicycle built for 2...a good man who always had a smile. May he rest in peace. I know he will be missed by all.

Dan called on me any my father in the 60's and 70's in the advertising speciality business I was just starting out and he had a lasting impact. Such a knowledgable and caring gentleman. It was with great sadness that I read Mr. Carretta's obituary this morning. Mr. Carretta was truly one of the nicest and most genuine people I ever met. It was a pleasure to have him as a customer at R and M Sporting Goods for many years. I hope you all know that you are in the thoughts and prayers of more people than you know.
