Dear Becca,
This is such tragic news, and so especially hard that it should happen just when the two of you were planning for a happy future in New Zealand. You have coped with major challenges in the past, and I'm sure you will find a way to cope with this too, but remember that you have family and friends who are here to support you in anyway we can. Thinking of you with love and much sympathy -

So sorry to hear of Dan's passing, Rebecca, and shocked by its suddenness. But then from the little I saw of him, Dan would never have been one to slip out quietly in a rocking chair. He lived a life with more adventure than most, and all with a humble air about him as if it was no big deal - how many people get winched from a helicopter to their wedding reception? Thinking of you in the days to come, and there's a hug waiting any time you are in New Brighton.

Dan dances with coyotes, he is in his beloved forest. He is that unique-in-the-universe snowflake that lands lightly on The Ice, becoming forever a part of Antarctica. He is inside your heart, Becca, giving you energy and health to carry on living your best possible life. He will always be with you. With all my love, Mum

Very sorry to hear of Dan's death last week. It's many years since I last saw him on the ice, but he's certainly a person who made a very positive impression and had a lot to offer others, and will be sorely missed.

We didn't know your husband personally but we were neighbors. He always had a smile on his face and always waved to us when we were in the neighborhood as well as around Mt. Pleasant. Our deepest condolences for your loss.

This is Becca, Dan's wife. I sit here and read all your heartfelt entries and I wish I could have contact details of all of you, so many of the familiar names of people Dan has talked about on the Ice to me, lives he has touched but I have not ever yet met in person.And so many wonderful friends around the globe that I have not seen for so long that makes me weep to see your names and know you are there. I thank you for all of your sympathy and I cannot tell you how much as I type this it means to me to have your messages. Thank you.

My grief is inconsolable but I want you to know I do feel your condolences. My sweetheart thanks you too, as he is helping me every day to try and get through each day. I will be creating a website for us, as I have so many photos, music tracks he loved and I have this very great need to share more of him. He lived several lifetimes in this brief one, and together we had almost come to the fruition of our dreams. On 28 February he was retiring and finally we would be together forever at our home at Glenlea in NZ. And we will.

When I was a doe-eyed D.A. in 2002, Dan was the first person at McMurdo Station who reached out to me, plucked me from the pot room and took me on a boondoggle to T-Site. Today, I work next to his office at McMurdo Station, where I make frequent runs up to T-Site, because that's now my job. Dan's act of kindness has been an inspiration on how to treat people and my career at McMurdo. I did not know him well, and yet, he was a mentor to me. I am sad and my thoughts are with Bex and Dan's family.

My prayers are with his family, Dan was friendly to all and enjoyed his life to the fullest. He will be missed.

Sad to hear. Dan and myself had many adventures together. Later Dan.
