Sue and Family, I am sending my sincere sympathy to you in the loss of your dear husband & father Dan. I am thinking of you and praying for your comfort and peace even in this time of extreme grief. I am so happy that I got to know Dan these past five years. You will have wonderful memories and keep those close to your hearts.

My memories of Dan started in 1988 when he offered me a position in his practice that enabled my family to return to Charleston. He was a dedicated medical community servant and a great role model and inspiration.

Dr. Brake was a kind and wonderful person. My family and I did not know him as a physician but as a family friend. Our condolences are to the entire Brake family, especially his wife Sue, the children Daniel Jr and Shannon, and the grandchildren. Dr. Brake was always quick with a smile and a story or a perceptive question depending on the situation. Our hearts go out to all feeling the loss of a truly kind and gentle soul.

I am so sorry to hear about Dr. Brake. He was my doctor when I first moved to Charleston. He went to med school with my uncle. He was a wonderful doctor. He will truly be missed.

Sue, so sorry to hear about Danny's death. As a distant cousin I remember as a child how nice he was to his little cousin from Moncks Corner. He came from a long line of gentlemen.

Losing Danny is a loss for the universe, not just for those of us who have been fortunate enough to have known and loved him. His impact will remain forever.

Dr. Brake was my family's doctor when we first came to Charleston in 1976. He was a true gentleman and I regretted when he had to stop practicing. My thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends. The Tomberlin family will not forget his kindness.

So sad to read of Danny's passing. I'm glad I had the opportunity of chatting with him at our 50th Class Reunion at Wofford. He was a very gracious, pleasant, and friendly gentleman. My deepest condolences to his beloved family.

Dan Brake was full of grace and affability. His tolerance and cheer was extraordinary. There will be a huge void of love and approval in my world without Dan.
There seems to be a lack of justice when someone so special is consumed by a debilitating disease such as Lewy' s body. Dan never lost his beautiful demeanor of acceptance throughout life and it served him well in dealing with this challenge. May God bestow upon Dan's family comfort and peace as they adjust to his absence.

Generally, the term "uncle-in-law" isn't used very often, a fellow rarely gets to know his wife's mother's sister's husband...but Dan was different. "Uncle-in-law" Dan Brake made all of us who married into the family feel welcome and part of the clan. Dan made sure that everyone knew he cared about them, he was always quick with a joke or some "fatherly advice" for those of us who don't have fathers. He was generous and kind and impacted the lives of so many people. He raised great kids and created a great life for his family. As a Doctor, his healing hands helped thousands of people live better lives. He will be missed by all of us very , very much.

He was such a soft spoken man who seemed to genuinely enjoy family and people in general. A great loss for us all, and especially his family.
