Daniel Odell Austin, Sr. GREENWOOD, SC - Daniel Odell Austin, Sr., 87, resident of 1006 Saddle Hill Road, widower of Mary Jane Felkel Austin, died May 25, 2010, at his home. Born in Bowman, SC, March 12, 1923, he was a son of the late Benjamin Tillman Austin and Alice Patrick Arant Austin. He was a graduate of Bowman High School and owned and operated Austin's Department Store in Elloree. Mr. Austin was a member of Tranquil United Methodist Church and was a former member of Jericho United Methodist Church in Cameron. He was also a member of the Greenwood Chapter of the National Federation of the Blind. Surviving are a daughter, Joan A. Duncan of Charleston and a son, Daniel O. Austin, Jr. of Greenwood; one sister, Ollie Antley of East Ridge, TN; five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted at 3:00 PM Friday at Tranquil United Methodist Church in Greenwood with Rev. Luke Mims officiating. There will also be a service at 3:00 PM Saturday at Jericho United Methodist Church in Elloree with burial to follow in the church cemetery. Pallbearers will be Perry Arant, Hal Arant, Mike Arant, Durwood Bundy, Jimmy Austin and Johnny Austin. Honorary escort will be Tracie Horne and Mark Hall. The family is at the home of Danny Austin, 1010 Saddle Hill Road in Greenwood and will receive friends immediately following the service at Tranquil United Methodist Church on Friday and following the graveside service on Saturday.
