Dan Howard Obituary

HOWARD, III, Dan WALTERBORO - Dan Irvine Howard III, 75, died Sunday, July 13, 2008, in Beaufort, SC after several years of declining health. He was born on May 24, 1933, in Carlisle, Pennsylvania, to the late Dan I. Howard and Dorothy S. Howard, who moved from Idaho to Dale, SC a number of years ago. After graduating from Kemper Military School in Bonneville, Missouri, Mr. Howard received his BA from Furman University and his MA from Appalachian State University. He devoted many years of his life to the education of others serving as a teacher, coach, and principal. For 23 years he served as a counselor for the South Carolina Vocational Rehabilitation Center in Walterboro. He was a member of the Bethel United Methodist Church and the Walterboro Civitan Club. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Eunice Brown Howard. Also surviving are his son, Thomas I. Howard, and his wife, Marsha, of Walterboro and his daughter, Beth Howard Jones, and her husband, Billy, of Gaffney, SC. Grandsons are Thomas and Robert Howard of Walterboro and Reid Jones of Gaffney. Funeral services will be at the Bethel United Methodist Church on Wednesday, July 16, at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Live Oak Cemetery. The family is appreciative of the caregivers, Agnes Allen, Ella Wright and Alvin Haynes, for their excellent care during the past several years. Memorials may be made to Bethel United Methodist Church, 355 Hampton Street, Walterboro, SC 29488 or to the Parkinson's Foundation, Office of Development, 1501 NW 9th Avenue, Bob Hope Road, Miami, FL 33136-1494. Visitation will be held Tuesday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at PARKER-RHODEN FUNERAL HOME, 117 Paul St., Walterboro, SC. Visit out guestbook at www.charleston.net/deaths.
