Cynthia Cooke Obituary

Cynthia Lemmond Cooke MT. PLEASANT - Cynthia Lemmond Cooke, 79, of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, wife of the late Barry Marshall Cooke, entered into eternal rest on Friday, October, 3, 2025. Her funeral service is scheduled for Thursday, October 16, 2025, at 1:00pm, at the Greenville ARP Church, located at 741 Cleveland Street, Greenville, South Carolina. Friends are invited to gather for visitation in the Fellowship Hall an hour before the service. Born February 14, 1946, in Charlotte, North Carolina, Cynthia was the youngest born to George Q. Lemmond and Ruby Pyron Lemmond. She graduated from Harding High School in 1964, and completed Dental Assistant training at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. She returned to Charlotte and married her high school sweetheart, Barry, in June 1966. After his service in the United States Air Force, Barry and Cynthia moved their young family to Greenville, South Carolina in 1973. There, they became members of the Greenville ARP Church, where Cynthia proudly served on countless committees, taught Sunday School and sang in the choir for forty years. The church was the center of their lives in every way. Cynthia served as the President of the ARP Women's Synodical Union, a role and an experience she so loved. She spent twenty-five years working in the Guidance Department at JL Mann High School before her retirement. She mentored and loved thousands of children navigating their high school experience. Her favorite time was spent with her love Barry at the movies, drinking extra-large Diet Cokes and eating candy she brought from home. She loved the Clemson Tigers, the Atlanta Braves and observed March Madness like it was a holiday. She could ALWAYS be counted upon to help family and friends celebrate milestones and success. She desperately loved her people. Cynthia was preceded in Heaven by her husband, Barry Cooke. She leaves behind two children, Jennifer Cooke Smith (Will) and Benjamin Wesley Cooke (Brandi), all of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina. She cherished her time spent with her five grandchildren, William Edmond Smith III, Cyrus Walton Smith, Anna Clark Mackenzie Cooke, Benjamin Wesley Cooke, Jr. and Tallulah Jane Cooke. She was predeceased in death by her brother, John Stafford Banks (Jeanne), and leaves behind her loving brother, Cyrus Query Lemmond (Candi) of Tucson, Arizona. She is also survived by her closest friend and fellow GAB, Susan "Soopie" McDaniel, with whom she shared much laughter, the best medicine life provides. Cynthia and I go back to early childhood in Charlotte NC..We went to the same schools, same church and live walking distance our whole young lives..We continued to keep in touch with each other until last month..I was a bridesmaid in her wedding to Barry..My heart is broken but find comfort in knowing she and Barry are back together in heaven. I sympathies to her children and grandchildren. She will always remain in my heart and memories. Cindy Killian

My deepest condolences to her family and friends. She and her husband Barry were good friends since childhood. My wife and I are heart broken that Cynthia has passed. We are certain that she and Barry are with God in heaven. They lived a wonderful and faithful life together. Her valiant fight against Parkinson“s disease earned her my deeply admiration.

We loved and will surely miss her.
