Constance Murphy Obituary

Constance "Connie" Krantzman Murphy MT. PLEASANT - Constance "Connie" Krantzman Murphy, 78, passed away peacefully at Roper Hospice Cottage on April 17, 2021 surrounded by immediate family. Connie was born May 16, 1942, in Kent, Ohio, as the only child of the late Wilford Theodore Cook and the late Opal Georgia Tate. Her father served in the U.S. Air Force in the Korean War and was declared missing in action. She was raised and educated in California, with the exception of attending boarding school at Principia High School in St Louis, Missouri, where she graduated in 1959. Connie graduated from the University of California Berkeley, where she met and married Robert Krantzman. They had one child, Kristin Dawn Krantzman. Connie became a CPA and was one of the first women hired by the then Big Eight Accounting Firm Peat Marwick Mitchell (now KPMG) in their San Francisco office. A few years later, her husband, Robert, was killed in a tragic accident and she moved with Kristin to Los Angeles. She spent a number of years doing some accounting work and mostly raising Kristin as a single mother. In 1980, she met and three years later married Robert "Bob" Murphy in Los Angeles. During this time, she graduated from Southwestern School of Law with Honors and served on Law Review. She then earned an LLM in Taxation from New York University School of Law in New York City. Returning to Los Angeles, she practiced tax law for a few years before transitioning into family law with her own office in Santa Monica. In addition, she was active with The Harriett Buhai Center for Family Law, and did a considerable amount of pro bono work. She also volunteered in adult and child literacy programs and enjoyed time as a docent at The Los Angeles Zoo. She and her husband, Bob, retired to Mt. Pleasant in 2011. Connie loved international travel and really ramped that up after retirement. She and Bob visited numerous countries all over the world. She was smart and intellectually curious. She had a beautiful infectious smile and it was so much fun to be with her. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. She will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 37 years, Robert Murphy; daughter, Kristin Krantzman; son-in-law, Greg White; and granddaughter, Elizabeth White, all of Charleston. Connie will also be remembered by those in her extended family: Mike, Grace, Ryan and Concetta Murphy of Phoenix; Mindy Cardenas and Kerri Gose Sigler of Amarillo; Doug, Kelly, Wyatt and Elliott Murphy of Houston; and Jordan, Eric and Ariana Montoya of Amarillo. I´m so sorry to hear of Connie´s passing. We went to law school together and saw each other through volunteer work at the Buhai Center. Connie was as lovely a person as she was a smart lawyer. She will be missed.
