Dear Dallas,
I was very sorry to hear your sad news. Reading C.B.'s obituary makes me realize how accomplished he was and what a wonderful man.

I am touched to have had the opportunity to meet him this past winter. C.B. was generous with his time and was so interested in fully responding to my questions, that he often went to his desk to retrieve items to give me.

Please accept my deepest condolences.

Sincerely,
Regina Wilson Daly

I am so sorry to hear of your loss. Mr. Berry was always a joy to be around and I loved to hear his stories about our area. Bergin and my Grandmother, Mae Boyd Holbert (Anderson) graduated from High School together in Cheraw. It's amazing what a small world we live in. It is certainly a better place for having had Mr. Berry be a part of it.

I am fortunate to have had Burgin as a dear friend. He was the heart and soul of our Grand Strand Toastmasters for many, many years. What a great person he was!

I know Burgin was extremely proud of his wonderful family, especially his grandchildren!! He often spoke of you all, and always with great delight.

Here is a very bad poem I wrote when we had a "poet's night" at our Christmas party one year. I know it's bad but the sentiment is good:

I've enjoyed being
in Toastmasters;
I'm proud of all
I've been learning.
And just think!
If I hadn't joined--
I would never have met Burgin.

Lots of love to all--

Cynthia

What a full life to celebrate! Mr. Berry was a fine man and respected by all. Among other things, he was a proud Navy WWII veteran, a professional land surveyor, historian, author, former mayor of Crescent Beach, one of the founders of Little River Gardens, a devoted family man, friend and child of God. He will be missed and remembered. Family and friends can take comfort knowing that Mr. Berry is now in God's Loving Care. Thoughts and prayers are with his special family. God bless.

Mr. Burgin was an influential leader of our community and lived a true life of service. His legacy is deeply engrained in the history as well as the ongoing development of our North Myrtle Beach community. I will always cherish the many opportunities that I had to visit with him and reflect on his many experiences over the years! It was fascinating to sit with him and he had so much to give and was so willing to help anyone who asked!

My sincere condolences to his family as I know Mr. Burgin will be missed here on earth. We need to all rejoice in the fact that his life blessed so many, many people and therefore, his life should be celebrated. I envision Mr. Burgin passing through the shadows of death, to continue his life with God. I picture him continuing to bless those who will be able to enjoy his numerous stories as he continues to serve God in heaven … As that is what he loved to do …

Please know that you are in my thoughts and prayers. As a real estate title examiner for over 30 years, Mr. Berry has come to my "rescue" many times with information that I needed to "figure out a title puzzle". Please know that I always looked forward to our talks when he visited the courthouse. As a memeber of the Horry County Historical Society, I will also miss his wonderful stories about the people who really started this county of ours. The farmers and the families that lived out in the country who trusted him with their family history. His wonderful smile and ready handshake put everyone at ease. Please know that I will miss him.

Mrs. Dallas, Cissy, Sandra,& Bobby,
Hearing of Mr. Burgin's passing has brought to mind so many childhood memories. From riding in that "old" convertible cadillac to eating dinner with ya'll and Mrs. Dallas trying to make me eat sweet peas and teasing me about loving rice so well. I feel like I too have lost a family member. Mr. Burgin was a great man. He was a kind man. I will always cherish those sweet memories of being allowed to be part of such a special family. Please remember that you are in my every thought and prayer.
I love you all,
Moo
I can still hear Mr. Burgin saying, "Hello MOO-MOO."

Cissy, Chelsey, and family,
We are so sorry to hear of your loss. I know how much you loved him. I see him now, attending Grandparents Day with Chelsey at the Primary School, a kind and loving man. Plus, he did a great service for Horry County....writing and speaking of all the "unimportant details" that are "too important" to ever be forgotten. As the world hurries by, we should take time to remember Mr. Berry as he remembered others... in infinity.

We have lost probably the greatest historian this area has ever known.I had the extreme pleasure of meeting and conversing with him when I worked in the surveying business back in the 90's.Just remembering how he knew everything and everyone in the historical area of Horry was truly inspiring. He helped us with the preservation of an old cemetery we found surveying. The builders would just have plowed it under if it wasn't for him.He also sparked my interest in the history of the area of which I was truly blessed to learn.I'm so sorry for everyones loss of this great man

I am so sorry to hear that Mr. Berry has passed away. Please accept my deepest sympathy. I always enjoyed talking with him about local history of which he was a wealth of knowledge. He did a great service for Horry County by telling the story of our county's history, often times bringing to light interesting and important facts that others missed or ignored. He will truly be missed.

I was so shocked when I saw the article announcing the death of Burgin Berry. I have some of my earliest child hood memories of the Berry family. I am so glad that my father and I had a recent visit with Mr. and Mrs. Berry so that my father could purchase a copy of Mr. Berry's book. I know that my father treasured the visit and will treasure the book as well. He and Mr. Berry have been friends for well over 50 years. His articles in the Sun News were a always a high light of my reading. He will be sorely missed. My condolences to all of the family for their loss.

Aunt Clydie, Sandra, Bobby, Cissy and their families,

Words cannot express my thoughts about your loss. All I could think of when Mom called was that a huge library had burned to the ground with all books lost. Then I started thinking about the times I spent at the beach, and the stories that Berry had told. Some of those stories I still repeat, as I am sure others do as well. So, with that in mind, I guess the library was not a total loss. I am so sorry that I cannot be there for the service, but know that our thoughts and prayers are with you all. Love, Denny, Jean, Christopher, Katie and Jimmy

Cissy, Sandra and Mrs. Dallas; Myself and all of our family would like to express our condolences in your loss. But I feel the need to also express my thanks for what Mr. Berry did for me during my life. He took a chance a college grad and instilled the knowledge of his profession to make me what I am today. Boy did we have our times together. Whether it was apologizing for accidently turning a bad angle and having recut a line or riding in that old Dodge that had so much dirt in it that plants were literally growing in the floor board. I can see the laughter every time we talked about that one. Or Mrs. Dallas asking him why he collected and saved everything, and I mean everything. And there are so many more. We worked together, but we were like a family, he molded us and raised us, and like most families, their children go there seperate ways, as we did. And everyone knows of his knowledge about the history of this county, and there is so much more that could be written. As I sit here in remembrance and a tear in my eye, Mr. Berry, you are a legend, a teacher, a father figure and most importantly, a friend. You will be solely missed.

Mrs. Berry and family,

It is with deep sadness that I read about Mr. Berry's death. During my four years as editor of the Neighbors section of The Sun News, I worked with Mr. Berry, receiving and editing his lovely historical columns. While I rarely saw him, we spoke frequently by telephone. I have always enjoyed his historical columns as has so many in our area. He will be sorely missed. My thoughts and prayers are with you at this time.
