Colin William Edwards BREMERTON, WA - Colin William Edwards of Bremerton, Washington and Sullivan's Island, South Carolina Born August 30, 1915 Died January 29, 2013 Bremerton, WA 97 years old. Colin graduated from Charleston High School, attended Southern Junior College (Southern Adventist University), Collegedale, TN, and served in the US Navy during the Korean War. Colin was Chief Quarterman (General Foreman) in the Charleston Naval Shipyard Pipe Shop, and from 1957 to 1972, when he retired, served as Master (Shop Superintendent) of the Pipe Shop, Puget Sound Naval Shipyard, Bremerton, WA. Among numerous awards Colin received the US Navy Superior Civilian Service Award, the highest civilian award. He created training programs for nuclear pipefitters, wrote the first federal government instruction on safely working with asbestos, and initiated important safety protocols for its use in the Pipe Shop. After retirement Colin and his wife, Virginia Sorensen Edwards, enjoyed traveling and returning to Sullivan's Island. Colin loved his garden, especially his roses, his grandchildren, playing the banjo, boating, shrimping, and fishing. Colin served as United Way of Kitsap County, WA president, volunteered with the Small Business Administration Service Corps of Retired Executives, and was deeply involved in Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church, Bremerton, WA. Colin was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Sorenson Edwards and son, Colin William Edwards, Jr. Colin is survived by his daughter, Lucy Edwards Hochstein of Radford, VA in addition to his grandchildren, James R. (Ivy) Hochstein, Jr. and great grandchild Chiara Hochstein and Susannah (Kevin) Rowles of Seattle, WA, Juliana (Andrew) Cook of Port Orchard, WA, and Lucy Ann Hochstein of Baton Rouge, LA and former son-in-law James R. Hochstein of Bremerton, WA. On Monday, February 11th there will be visitation at 7 PM and rosary at 7:30 PM at Lewis Funeral Chapel, Bremerton, WA. On Tuesday, February 12th there will be 10 AM visitation and 11AM funeral mass at Our Lady Star of the Sea Catholic Church, and 2 PM committal service at Forest Lawn Cemetery's Sunrise Terrace, both in Bremerton, WA.
