Clyde Calhoun Obituary

Clyde Livingston Calhoun, Sr. NEESES, S.C. - The Reverend Clyde Livingston Calhoun, Sr., 83, of Orangeburg, departed this life on Saturday, July 4, 2009, at Trident Medical Center after a brief illness. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m., on Friday, July 10, at New Light United Methodist Church, 3100 Neeses Highway, Orangeburg. The casket will be placed in the church at 12 p.m. for viewing. Burial will be in New Light's Macedonia Cemetery, in Orangeburg. Born in Marboro county on February 20, 1926, Reverend Calhoun was the son of the late Hugh and Isadora Calhoun and grew up as the oldest of four siblings. Reverend Calhoun was ordained as elder in 1952 and served full-time in the United Methodist South Carolina Annual Conference for 44 years. He retired from full-time ministry in 1994 but remained active in service to New Light United Methodist Church, the Orangeburg Community, and the South Carolina Annual Conference until his passing. Reverend Calhoun was preceded in death by a daughter, Avis Deenae Calhoun. Reverend Calhoun is survived by his wife, Birdadean Jamison Calhoun, daughter, Athena Calhoun Brown, son-in-law, Theodore Brown, son, Clyde Livingston Calhoun, Jr., daughter-in-law, Marie Calhoun and grandson, Clyde Livingston Calhoun, III. He is survived by brother, Marion Calhoun, sister, Dr. Edna Louise Calhoun and sister, Doris Calhoun Nickoless. he is also survived by sisters-in-law, Sallie Young, Clemmie Williams, Eulilian Kennerly and Helen Jamison, brothers-in-law, John Nickoless, Kelly White, John Williams, and James Kennerly and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and many dear friends. Viewing will be from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., Thursday, July 9, at W.B. CRUMEL FUNERAL HOME OF NORTH. My sincere condolences to the Calhoun family. I have many fond memories of Rev. Calhoun catching us playing church in the sanctuary of Trinty United Methodist Church many, many years ago. He was a very kind and gentle soul.
