Clinton Gatlin Obituary

Clinton E. Gatlin MACEDONIA, SC - Mr. Clinton Edward Gatlin, 82, of Macedonia, SC, a retired carpenter for Westvaco, died Saturday morning at a Moncks Corner hospital. His funeral will be 11:00 a.m., Tuesday morning, January 4, 2011, in the Hood's Chapel United Methodist Church, Macedonia. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at DIAL-MURRAY FUNERAL HOME, MONCKS CORNER, this Monday evening from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Mr. Gatlin was born September 14, 1928, in Macedonia, SC, a son of Greely Gatlin and Mabel Barnes Gatlin. He was a member of the Hood's Chapel United Methodist Church, which he helped to construct in addition to the parsonage there, and he formerly attended Faith Assembly in Summerville, where he participated in many missionary trips. He loved to build birdhouses, and the "Purple Martin Mission" was his specialty. Mr. Gatlin enjoyed fishing, camping, and traveling, but most of all, helping out in his community following his retirement from Westvaco after 44 years of service. He was preceded in death by a sister, Ida Mae Edens, and two brothers, Russell and Robert Gatlin. Mr. Gatlin was the widower of Barbara Brown Gatlin. Surviving are two sons, Edward C. Gatlin of Macedonia and Kenneth D. Gatlin and his wife, Janice, of Charlotte, NC; three sisters, Thelma Schurlknight and Virginia Patz both of Macedonia and Thomasine Shuler of West Columbia; three grandchildren, Carrie Gatlin, Brent Gatlin, and Haley Gatlin; and a special friend, Sarah Jackson. I will always remember Mr. Clinton for the warm and generous man is always was......always smiling and always ready with a handshke or hug. To Edward and Kenny, my thoughts and prayers are with you both as you adjust to life without "Dad". God bless you both and may He always keep you in His care.
