Gadsden family,
I will always hold Cliff and Erica close to my heart..when they first moved to Ft. Polk they lived right behind us. Cliff was assigned to our battalion. Huge warm welcomes were sent along with house hold items to help get them started. A friendship was started.. The day of my farewell luncheon( got orders to ft. Lee) I made a promise to Erica.. a promise that will eat me alive forever.. I promised I would always be there for you.. and that day I was not.. my best friend was part of the team that responded whom Erica met during my farewell... I miss Cliff's smiling face.. always happy and eager to learn, his amazing family and two beautiful kids.. KJ was so little and learning to walk.. they both were embracing their new life in the military.. Erica.. if you read this please contact me.. [email protected] or my # is 978-549-4094

Darling son,

I just spent a week with your children. You would be so proud of Kinshaza and Kj and the love they have for each other. They speak lovingly of their Dad and Kinshaza shares her memory of you with KJ. My sister, my brother they remind me so much of you and Amber without the fights. Each year on memorial weekend we journey to Washington DC . It's such a healing time for all of us but especially for them. It's their time to be together and to remember and honor you.

LT Gadsden, you've been in my thoughts more than usual sir. You cross my mind daily though. I keep thinking about the day we left for Iraq when you introduced me to your family. You told them I'd be riding shotgun for you. I don't remember who it was but she told me to take care of you and bring you home safe. I told her I would. I'm so sorry I broke that promise. I'm sorry I was home on R&R and you had to go on that one mission without me. I should have been there. I could have done something to make it turn out differently. I'm a civilian now with a wife and daughter. When my little girl is old enough, she's going to know who you are. I'll tell her about you. In the years since you passed we lost a few more from 603rd. So I hope you and SSG Davis are looking out for Kilpatrick, Simon, and Rudd. In the last few months I've started going to church and getting to know God. Last month I accepted him as my savior. When my time comes, the first thing I'll do is snap to attention and give you a salute, then fall in with your platoon. Thanks for being who you are sir. And again I'm sorry I wasn't there. LT, I have had the opportunity to meet Kavontre. I know you held him in the highest honor. He took the step and attended TAPS in Washington D.C. He wears your badge proudly and represents your family and all that which you stood for very well. The friends he makes are "true" friends and it isn't easy to earn that title. I admire him and it is an honor to serve and assist in any way can to your family. I hope you would be proud.

Just remembering....Re

May 20, 2011

Not a day goes by that I don't think of you or call your name. I miss your smile and laugh the most. You were most afraid of your son not remembering you, he does. He says that he remembers sleeping on your chest, he remembers you reading to him and most of all he remembers sitting in his walker by the front door waiting for you to come home on your lunch break. Six years of young men now know you also. They gaze up at your picture in my classroom daily, and on my best days I tell them your story and on my worst days they cry with me. I spent the anniversary of your passing surrounded by young people, we took them to the zoo. When one girl tried to thank me I hugged her and thanked her instead it was the first time in years that I spent that day laughing, living and not in tears. Thanks my darling boy for the memories.

Man...I just can't believe it...this is crazy...me talking to you like this...typing away...wishing that we could talk...I miss you so very much...There were so many times when you were like my diary's page. I know that you're in a good place. I wouldn't wish you back. It's going on five years. I remember the last time we saw each other...Good memories, real good ones...this doesn't seem right, but it is. I know that we have our time. Looking at your picture...I have to look away for a moment. You're still here, just in a different way and with a different purpose. I have to remember that. I will always think of you...

CC, you are responsible for me being that man that I am today. Our private talks we would have when I would come over to the house, kept me encouraged to stay on the path I was on. Many times in my life, I was faced with making hard decisions and was worried about what people would think of me. You would always tell me "D, you do what's good for you, nobody else". Whether it was a comedic moment, you hosting a BBQ, or us just chillin'. You always believed in bringing the crew together. We've been slacking on that lately, but we will get better. I still cry from time to time, thinking about our last convo we had before you left for Iraq. Thanks for saving our lives! I promise, your memory will not die...I will MAKE them remember..

I miss Clifford my man, I remember when you hooked me up with a job at Red Lobster when we were about 15 or 16. I remember all those hours we put in the summer preparing for the fall football season at Choctawhatchee High School. All that time made us close I'm an only child but you always been a brother to me. I remember your Pops letting me sip that moonshine...good times, lol. Who would of thought that we would have joined the military. Who would of thought that we would both be in Iraq at the same time. I still have our e-mails saved......I remember all that like it was yesterday.

THINKING OF YOU ALWAYS AND FOREVER!

In Memory of Clifford ~ ( Debra Estep )

May 1, 2008

Holding you all in my thoughts and prayers.

The Wind on The Downs

“I like to think of you as brown and tall,
As strong and living as you used to be,
In khaki tunic, Sam Brown belt and all,
And standing there and laughing down at me.
Because they tell me, dear, that you are dead,
Because I can no longer see your face,
You have not died, it is not true, instead
You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe;
I hear you laughing as you used to do,
Yet loving all the things I think of you;
And knowing you are happy, should I grieve?
You follow and are watchful where I go.”

(Written by Marian Allen during World War l )

Two lines that I wish you to keep near your heart…….

“You seek adventure in some other place.
That you are round about me, I believe”

I did not know Clifford, but I am remembering his service.
He is my hero.

The Other Side

i'm over on the other side
where life and death softly divide.
left my skin and bones behind
now i'm over on the other side.

can you feel me there with you?
my breath is gone but i'm not through.
loved you then and i still do
from over on the other side.

i can fly. really fly.
below the earth ... all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

it's good here on the other side.
the sweetest songs...the bluest skies.
thank you for the tears you cried
but it's good here on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth...all through the sky.
tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side

the world is smaller than a needle's eye.
where life and death softly divide.
when you leave your skin and bones behind
i'll be waiting on the other side.

i can fly. really fly. below the earth ... all through the sky.
go tell em all i did not die.
i'm just over on the other side.

I was LT Gadsden's driver/gunner in Iraq before he passed. My only regret is that I was on R&R leave back in the states when he was killed. It still haunts me today that I wasnt by his side on that mission like i was for every other mission. The feeling that I could have done something to prevent it has never left. Im out of the military now, but I will never forget LT. He was one of a kind and did his best to take care of his troops. and in the end made the ultimate sacrifice that a soldier can make for his country. You are missed LT.

There is nothing that I can say or do to take away the pain or bring you peace in your time of sorrow, but I will offer you and your family my heart felt condolences. I also offer you my prayers that in time the pain will easy and the memories of your HERO will carry you through each day and night. I want to thank your HERO, for his/her selfless act of becoming a member of the armed forces, his/her willingness to defend the United States of America, all that we hold sacred and for the sacrifice that will forever be etched in the memories of all those who knew him/her. Though tears can never bring him/her back, we hope that our tears express our gratitude for the sacrifice that he/she made and our sorrow at his/her passing. I believe for every fallen HERO there is a star shining brightly up above to remind us of the precious gift we were given.

Your mission on earth is complete and you are now a member of GOD’s Heavenly armed forces. Stand down brave warrior and take your rightful place in Heaven with all the HEROES who have passed before.

I made a special promise to LE RON A. WILSON, a dear family friend who joined the Army with three other friends, one of whom is my son (Le Ron was killed in action on 07/06/07 at the age of 18) on the day he was laid to rest as I touched his coffin, that I would never forget him nor would I forget those that gave their lives for our country before him, with him and after him and so when I came across www.legacy.com, I thought what a great way to keep my promise to Le Ron, so I will continue to leave tributes in each guest book until the day there is no longer the need to leave these tributes to a FALLEN HERO.

REST IN PEACE, HERO, YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN!!

CC was a dear cousin, brother, nephew, and friend to me.I remember when he was born he stole my mother's heart because I think that she always wanted a boy so CC was the son that she never had. I can remember when they lived in Charleston and CC played football at St.Andrews Park I Would take him to his practices. I can remember the time when I had hit him and the next morning He got up and his eye was swollen he looked like an alien and Nervy thought that I had done it and she fussed me out. She took him to the doctor and found out that He had gotten stung by a bee.I have nothing but fond memories of CC he was always special, always wanted to make a difference in someone's life.He wore a smile that would lighten up a room. He would melt your heart with his smile. I love you so much CC.It is so hard to believe that u are gone it has been 5 months and yet it seems like a fresh wound.Everything CC did he did it with pride.Like CC would say "LET'S DO THIS".He was truly "A DOER".One of his favorite sayings when you asked him how HE was doing He would say "I ahright". So if He could tell us anything today it would be "I am alright". "I am a Soldier in the Army of the Lord".To our family far and near let's continue to be strong and remember to always put God first in everything that we do.Thanks to everyone for your continue love and support.

Clifford was a distant cousin that I never met but I mourn the loss of a relative that I never got to meet in all my recent trips to Charleston & Hollywood, SC in the past 12 years. Every two years I meet new relatives and enjoy every moment from the Brown's, the Legare's and so on. I have always heard nothing but loving and positive things about Clifford and I know the world is worse off. My heart felt sympathy goes out to the family and friends no matter how far they may be. May all of you be comforted by every memory. May the Gadsden chirldren have nothing but positivity and blessings from here on because the greatest loss has been suffered. God bless.

Aretha Blake

July 5, 2005

The gift of life is to have the opportunity to love deeply and unconditionally and to be loved back in the same manner. My cousin, my brother, my friend, CC loved in that way. Despite time and distance, he loved me like a sister and, despite being the younger cousin, protected my like a father, when needed. I remember the times when CC held me back from unneccessary fights...but I also remember the times that he pushed me forward and encouraged me to face challenges that seemed insurmountable.

I knew CC from the day he was born - something that I can say about only a few people. I watched him grow from a boy that HATED the fact that I made him play school all the time (I was always the teacher) to a man that valued and sought education, both academically and as a soldier. I observed him blossom from a little boy with a mischievous smile to a handsome man with a smile that could stop traffic and warmed many hearts, including mine. I saw him mature from a doting and loving son to a caring and devoted husband and father. He changed...as we all do. But as he changed, he also changed the lives of others in a positive and meaningful way. I can only pray that I, as well as anyone who reads this message, also has the opportunity to live as unselfishly as CC did and to change the lives of the people around us.

No words can express the pain that CC's loss has brought to me and my family. Heartbroken is the only word that I've been able to articulate in my mind over the last two months. My solace, our solace, comes from the fact that CC's life was so full of love - love that he felt flowing from us every minute of every day, his love of and faith in God, and his love of his friends, family, children, and country. I know that on days like this, on days when the heartbreak manifests itself in sobs and tears, that he is looking upon me with love and urging me to fight on to face this insurmountable task...of living without him. For him, and in honor of him, I will continue to live a life of love and continue to fight, no matter how tough this battle. I love you so much C!

Dearest Cousin,

Words cannot express the emptiness that I feel. I love and miss you more than anyone could imagine. People simply say that in time, things will get better, but obviously they did not have the pleasure of being your cousin and knowing your love, comfort, spirit, and peace. I still cannot believe that you are gone and still hold on to the hope that one day you will call me and say, "It was a mistake I'll see you at Grandmama's house in August.", but I know in my heart that you are resting with God and watching over us. Not a day goes by that I don't think about you, and it hurts to know you will not be there with your endless smile and warm embrace.

You have inspired and encouraged me to be a better person and I promise to make you proud.

I am so sorry that I never told you how much I treasure our friendship and how much you mean to me. You are like a brother to me and you will always be my brother. Mrs. Minerva and Clifford Gadsden and family--The lost of your son is undoubtedly painful. Remember the joy that he must have right now as he resides with our Father in HEAVEN. Continue to keep CeCe's memories alive by speaking about him and how wonderful he was and how great his spirit that surrounded him was. You are the greatest storyteller that I have ever encountered and I pray that you will blend CeCe's life into a remarkable storytelling event that will touch the lives of everyone who hears it. I know this will be easy because his life has already been influential to all those who knew him. Keep GOD near and know that HE is there for you.

CeCe's wife and children--you had a beautiful husband and father and although your time together was short, his impact in your life will last a lifetime. Keep his memories and the joys you shared together alive in your heart and conversations--GOD is there for you.

My prayers are with you; May God bless you all.

To The Gadsden Family:

The Lord is my shepherd: I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: He restoreth my soul: He leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; Thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord for ever.

Words cannot express my deepest sympathy. I pray that the Lord will-and I know he will embrace you and your family with uplifting strength during your time of sorrow. May God Bless and Keep You. THE LILLY IS IN THE VALLEY...AMEN

I want to express my deepest sympathy. I knew Gadsden all of his ROTC training and it was indeed a pleasure working with him. He was a very sincere person with a bright warm smile. I considered him as a son. I know he is resting in the arms of the almighty. I'll miss you.

I GREET YOU IN THE NAME OF OUR LORD AND SAVIOR JESUS CHRIST,

To The Gadsden Family,

Although I have only known Minerva for a short time, I know she is one terrific lady and mother. Our last book club meeting, she spoke with love and caring about her son Clifford. I remember her saying "after she mentioned her concern for his safety", he said "Mom, I'm blessed". Minerva & family - keep God's faith. The love of God, your family, and your friends will hopefully help each of you to endure such a tragic loss.

Love,

Florence/Patrick Hart
