Christopher Hammond Obituary

Christopher W. Hammond CHARLESTON - Christopher Weymouth Hammond, husband of Lou Rena Hammond and father of Stephen Hammond, died Friday, December 3, 2010, after an extended illness. Formerly of New York City, he had been a Charleston resident for the past 11 years. His professional career included serving as a vice president for PepsiCo, Inc. and Manhattan School of Music. During his tenure at PepsiCo he was for five years Director of Marketing, Middle East, residing in Beirut, Lebanon. He was an alumnus of Phillips Academy Andover and Harvard College. Active in the local community, he served on a number of boards including the American College of the Building Arts, Charleston Orchestra Association and the Catesby Commemorative Trust. He was also active supporting the Historic Charleston Foundation and was a member of the Vestry for St. Mark's Episcopal Church. Born in Portland, Maine, he was 75 years of age. The family will receive friends at home, 96 Tradd Street, on Monday, December 6 from 4 to 6 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations to memorials may be made to Historic Charleston Foundation, 40 East Bay Street; Spoleto Festival USA, 14 George St; St. Mark's Episcopal Church, 18 Thomas Street; and Doctor Jeffrey Wong Medical Education Fund, MUSC Fdn., 171 Ashley Avenue.
