Christine Shirer Obituary

Christine Shirer LONE STAR, SC - Mrs. Christine Zeagler Shirer, 88, widow of Jesse D. Shirer, of Lone Star, died Tuesday, February 26, 2013, at her home with her family. Mrs. Shirer, daughter of the late Osward Kreps and Tena Wise Zeagler, was born June 11, 1924 in Lone Star. She was a life-long member of Pine Grove Lutheran Church, a member of the Pine Grove Women of the ELCA, a homemaker and a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. As an avid canasta player, she passed her legacy on to her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was also bookkeeper for her family's farm and Cameron Lumber Company. She is survived by her sons and daughters, J. D. Shirer, Jr. and his wife, Martha Emily, of Lone Star; Margaret S. Mims and her husband, Richard, of Irmo; Linda S. Koucky and her husband, Jack, of Gilbert; and Mike Shirer and his wife, Kristi, of Cameron; her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, David and Janet Shirer and their children, Kasey and Travis, of Lone Star; Donna S. and Scott Corcoran and their daughter, Harlie Anne, of Lone Star; Mark Shirer of Lone Star, Melissa M. and Michael Smith and their daughter, Ashley, of Elloree; Shannon Mims of Austin, Texas, Derek and Michelle Koucky and their daughters, Tatum and Skyler, of Lexington; Jessica D. Oswald of Florida, Charles Oswald and daughter, Peyton, of Lexington; Michael and Susannah Shirer and their son, Perry, of Charleston; and Kayne and Kinsey Shirer and their son, Jackson, of Mount Pleasant. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Wednesday, February 27, 2013 at Dukes-Harley Funeral Home, 3379 Columbia Road, Orangeburg. The funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, February 28, 2013 at Pine Grove Lutheran Church, 2688 McCords Ferry Road, Lone Star. Pallbearers will be her grandsons, David Shirer, Mark Shirer, Scott Corcoran, Michael Smith, Derek Koucky, Michael Shirer and Kayne Shirer. The family wishes to express special thanks to Lexington Medical Center Staff, especially Dr. William Dunovant, Jr. and 5th Floor RN, Lisa R.; St. Matthews Family Practice Staff, especially Sarah McLauchlin, PA; Grove Park Hospice, especially Robin Johnson, RN; Caregiver, Cynthia Jumper; and long-time helpers at her home, Margaret McFadden, Dot McFadden and Rufus Gates.
