Christine Serna Obituary

Christine Lopez Serna Hanahan - CHRISTINE LOPEZ SERNA, Hanahan - was welcomed into heaven by her Savior on Wednesday, December 27, 2017, at her home. She was born on December 25, 1924, in Denver, Colorado, to the late Emilio and Eulalia Cisneros Lopez. Christine was a very loving, compassionate and humorous lady. She faced all challenges and endeavors with determination. She was always a prayer warrior and dedicated to her church, whether in Texas or South Carolina. To her family, she was the Matriarch and encourager. She was raised in the Dallas-Fort Worth, Texas, area where she met Martin Perez Serna and later was married on September 12, 1949. Martin preceded her in death on March 25, 2007. During her working years there, she enjoyed meeting people and making friends at Neiman Marcus and Centex Homes. She also was preceded in death by her brothers and sisters; John Lopez, Sylvia Torres, Emilio Lopez and Geneva Montez. She is survived by one brother, Lawrence Lopez. Christine also is survived and will be lovingly missed by her daughter, Patricia Saavedra Lira (Paul); stepson, Martin Ochoa Serna and daughter, Sandra K. Kingry-Geiger (Glen). Surviving grandchildren include Sonya Phillips, Melissa Quevedo (Stephen), Anthony Zacarias, Matthew Kingry (Alexis) and Christopher Kingry; great-grandchildren, include Jerry Phillips, III, Victoria Pacheco, Alex Maldonado, Alyssa Quevedo, Mark and Jordan Zacarias, Brayden Kingry, and Bodie Zayne Kingry born December 16, 2017. Along with all these dear relatives, Christine is survived by many nephews and nieces. A celebration of Christine's life will be held on Tuesday, January 2, 2018, at 2:00 pm at Carolina Memorial Funeral Home, 7113 Rivers, Ave. with the family receiving friends from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm prior to the service.
