Christian Hoefer Myers COLUMBIA, SC - Christian Hoefer Myers, 31, of Columbia, South Carolina, passed away on Friday, February 21st after a courageous 16-month battle with breast cancer. Born on May 5, 1993, she was the treasured daughter of Christina Hoefer Myers and the late James Townsend Myers. She attended St. Joseph Catholic School, Cardinal Newman Middle School, and Dreher High School. She graduated from Tulane University receiving a Bachelor of Science degree with honors. She deferred her plans for graduate school for two years to assist in the care of her beloved father while employed by E.M.S. for Richland County. She then entered the nursing program at the Medical University of South Carolina, earning her Bachelor of Science in Nursing, Summa Cum Laude. Christian was a dedicated nurse who touched the lives of many with her compassion and skill. Her professional career included impactful service at the Mayo Clinic, Rochester, MN, and, most recently, in the Pediatric Cardiac ICU at the University of Colorado Children's Hospital. Christian was enrolled in the University of Colorado's Master of Science in Anesthesiology program when she received her cancer diagnosis. Known for her beautiful spirit, generous heart, and unwavering strength, Christian faced her illness with remarkable grace. Her commitment to her patients and her genuine care for others leaves a lasting legacy. In addition to her mother, Christian is survived by her sister, Aidan Myers Hatch (brother-in-law, Michael and nephews, August and Liam), her brother, Townsend MacMartin Myers (sister-in-law, Peggy and nieces Sarah and Emma), and sister, Amy Elizabeth Myers (brother-in-law, Xavier Garcia and niece Elle). In addition to her father, she was preceded in death by her grandparents, Lilla Farrell Hoefer and Herbert Wellington Hoefer of Columbia, SC, and Elma Verlander Townsend Myers and Buford MacMartin Myers of New Orleans, LA. She is also survived by her aunts, Jean Hoefer Toal (uncle Bill and cousins, Jean and Lilla), Lilla Hoefer Hackett (uncle, Jerry and cousins, Thomas and Margaret), and Ann McCallum Hoefer (and cousins, Charlotte and Sophie). She was also preceded in death by her uncles, Herbert W. Hoefer, Jr. (surviving cousin, Mary Tresca Hoefer Cook), Ben Bradburn, Donald Townsend Myers, and Buford MacMartin Myers, Jr., and her aunt, Dorothy Elma Myers Drackett. She will be deeply missed by her mother, Christina, her siblings, her extended family, and her many friends. Her family has been greatly supported by dear friends, Sue Boyle and Gwen Hilyard, who have established the Christian Hoefer Myers Scholarship in her honor at the Medical University of South Carolina. A funeral Mass to celebrate Christian's life will be held at 10:00 am on March 22nd at Saint Joseph Catholic Church in Columbia, South Carolina. It was Christian's wish that funeral attendees wear colorful clothing.
