Chris Duckworth Obituary

Chris Duckworth N. CHARLESTON - Donald Christopher Duckworth passed away on April 1, 2013, at MUSC after a valiant battle with lung cancer. He departed his life on this earth with his wife, Bonnie, whom he adored, at his side, along with many members of his family and friends. Chris was born in Baltimore, MD, on December 3, 1957, a son of Donald and Suzanne Duckworth. His family moved where his father's career took them. He lived in NC, GA, VA, FL, NJ, IL, OH, and Charleston, SC, where he attended Hanahan High School before the family moved to Newtown, Pennsylvania, where he graduated from Council Rock High School. He began his career as a highly respected welder at General Dynamics and continued his profession at Detyens Shipyard, Milcom Systems, and for the last fifteen years as Manufacturing and Logistics Manager at Rapid Deployment Systems. He was an active member of Riverbluff Church, loved jet skiing with his wife, golfing with friends and was the Lagrunta NASCAR League Commissioner. Chris is survived by his wife of 32 years, Bonnie Clinton Duckworth, their daughter, Charlotte Darnell Duckworth, of Charleston, SC, their son, Christopher Clinton Duckworth (Crystal), of Suffolk, VA, and his very special canine companion, Chloe. He is also survived by his mother, Suzanne Horn Duckworth, and his three siblings, Kim Duckworth, Michael Duckworth, and Rob Duckworth (Robin). He was predeceased by his father, Donald Duckworth. The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to the staff at MUSC for the special care given to Chris and his family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Midland Park Community Ministries, 2427 Midland Park Road, North Charleston, SC 29406. A memorial service for Chris will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, April 5th, followed by visitation with the family at Riverbluff Church, North Charleston, SC. Bonnie, Clint and Charlotte, I was very sorry to hear Chris lost his long and courageous battle with lung cancer. Chris and I had been friends since high school, although I had not seen him in a while, we kept in touch via email. Chris could always light up a room with his smile and wonderful sense of humor. To the Duckworth family; I have such wonderful memories of our families adventuures at the Jersey shore and swamping the canoe in the bay. I am very sorry to learn of your loss. Chris was the youngest, but probably the toughest of the clan as I remember him. Thank you for taking me under your wings so many years ago.

Sometimes you are given a friend that makes a difference. You may not talk every day, or see each other for weeks, but the friendship never diminishes. It's the comfort of knowing that person is just a short drive, a call, or email away that makes the difference. Daddy Duck was that. Bonnie knows where I'd come when things were hard to figure out. Chris Duckworth is my friend and always will be. So now, let's celebrate this life in Duck style.

Feel no guilt in laughter,Chris knows how much you care.
Feel no sorrow in a smile that he is not there to share.
You can not grieve forever, he would not want you to.
He'd hope that you could carry on the way you always do.
So, talk about the good times and the way you showed you cared.
The days you spent together, all the happiness you shared.
Let memories surround you. A word someone may say will suddenly recapture a time,an hour,a day,And fills you with the feeling that Chris is always near.
For if you keep those moments, you will never be apart and Chris will live forever locked safely within your hearts.
We were blessed to know Chris.I enjoyed working with Chris . He was a great man .You all are in our thoughts and prayers.

Chris, how do you say goodbye to someone who has been more than a friend, you've always been a special part of our family. Our hearts are aching with the thought of not seeing your wide-eyed smile and quirky, devilish grin ever again...you retained your sense of humor, sarcasm, "modesty", and all consuming love for everyone right up to the end..you are and forever will be missed by all of us. Thanks for the fun, the good times and all the memories..I hope you embrace Heaven with as much gusto as you embraced life. We promise to be there whenever Bonnie and the kids need us. Love eternal, Steve & Shirley Ricker
