Charlie was a great friend while at Presbyterian College. Although it has been a long time since we were together,I feel like we were still great friends. His funeral service (video) reminded me what a great guy he was. Ellen, you must be special also. Charlie, my friend, Rest in Peace knowing you were a good man.

Lemme tell you about my old friend, Charlie. I met him back in the 1980s when I was at a photo shoot next door to Charlie and Ellen´s home on Park Street. His home exterior was being painted... yellow. When I left the photographer´s studio, I was shocked to find the black Corvette I had parked on the curb was yellow! You know I freaked and went straight to the front door and introduced myself quickly. I just pointed at my car. Charlie was just as concerned as I was, but luckily, the overspray had dried before it landed, so Charlie hosed off the car and we laughed and laughed! As it turned out, he needed an advertising agency for his young company, Guardian Fence Suppliers, so the company became The Gillespie Agency´s very first client. Charlie and I worked together until I shut my business down in 2015. We did hundreds of advertising, public relations and retail sales projects together and Charlie always believed in me. Guardian Fence provided warehouse space and workers when The Good Bowl (a non-profit I was part of) handed out hundreds of thousands of pounds of free pet food to animal rescue groups and shelters. They even helped shelters with fencing to improve conditions for homeless pets. Charlie and I stayed fast friends for every day of those 30+ years (and beyond)! R.I.P. Charlie. I can still hear your laughter in my head.

So honored to have been able to meet and spend time getting to know Charlie in the short time we had together. It quickly became apparent what a wonderful person he was. We will dearly miss our friend and lakeside neighbor. Our sincere condolences to Ellen and all his family and friends. May the happy memories and good times bring comfort.

Charlie was such a great person. He was one of the first clients I had in the ad business. He and Ellen went on to become good friends and always had a dog (or two or three) to talk about. Thinking of you Ellen and sending you big hugs. Rest, sweet Charlie, rest. You deserve it.

Ms. Ellen, I am so sorry for your loss. I know me and my father wish we could both be there. Charlie was a wonderful man and brought joy to everyone who crossed his path. I will never forget what the both of you did for me as a kid, what he has done for my family. I love you.
