Charles Walling Obituary

WALLING, Sr., Charles RUFFIN- Mr. Charles Marshall Walling, Sr., husband of Carol Benton Walling, died Wednesday evening at his home, 2494 Penny Creek Drive in Ruffin, after an extended illness. He was 66. Mr. Walling was born in Colleton County August 16, 1939, a son of the late G. "Sonny" Walling and Mattie Lemacks Walling. He was employed by GTE Telephone for 32 years, where he worked in various capacities until eventually becoming a digital switch technician prior to his retirement. After retirement, he became the owner and operator of Telefon Sales and Service for 10 years. Mr. Walling was a member of the Live Oak Street Church of Christ where he was a teacher and leader for many years. Surviving, in addition to his wife of 47 years are 3 sons, Charles Marshall "Chuck" Walling, Jr., and wife Sandy, of Ruffin; Timothy A. "Tim" Walling, and wife Debi, of Ruffin; and Mark L. Walling, and wife Robin, of Walterboro. There is 1 daughter, Phyllis Walling Bridge, of Ruffin. There are 4 sisters, Ruby W. Crosby, of Walterboro; Helen W. Overland, of Bamberg, Genevieve W. Beach, of Lake Lure, NC, and Hazel W. Lanier, of Beaufort. Mr. Walling has 7 grand children, Matthew, Kirby, Megan and Jason Walling, Erica and Trent Bridge, and Anna Hawkins, and was pre-deceased by 2 sisters Clara W. Crosby and Wilma W. Brinson. Funeral services will be held Saturday morning at 11:00 am in the Chapel of Parker-Rhoden Funeral Home with Evangelist Phillip Prince officiating. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be held Friday evening from 6-8pm at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society Relay for Life.
