Charles Strickland Obituary

Charles Ravenel Strickland Covington, LA - Charles Ravenel Strickland, 75, died in his sleep on Wednesday, February 24, 2016 in Covington, Louisiana. His Graveside Service will be Friday, March 4 at St. Phillip's Churchyard at 12:30 p.m. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Charles' life. ARRANGEMENTS BY J. HENRY STUHR, INC. DOWNTOWN CHAPEL. Charles was born August 8, 1940 the son of the late Sarah Legare' Ravenel Strickland and Kenneth Ralph Strickland. Charles loved children. Throughout his lifetime and for most of his active career, he dedicated himself to educating and guiding young people. It was his dream that each have the opportunity to gain an education and live life to its full potential. His favorite professional years were, by far, those spent as headmaster of East Cooper School in Mt. Pleasant, SC. The building of the "New Wing" as the newly founded middle and high school was called, embodied his dream for young people. Many recall how his commitment to the school, to the quality of its teachers, made it radiate with the feelings of unending potential. More than an administrator, he was also a guide for many. Charles wanted his students to believe in themselves and in their dreams. He was available to those who sought advice during times of doubt and hardship. A generous and sentimental man, Charles' relationships were governed by his heart. He was sensitive to others and cared deeply. Charles was a loving father and grandfather. He beamed with pride before his children and grandchildren. He will be dearly missed. He is survived by his three children, Katherine Miller Strickland Palles, Emily Susan Ravenel Strickland Wolff and Charles Jervey Ravenel Strickland and by his three grandchildren, John Bradley Palles, Jr., Dorian Ellwya Wolff and Anya Eleanor Ravenel Wolff. Please know I am thinking of all of you and wish I could be at the funeral. Your father impacted so many lives and I know you will miss him immensely! So many fond memories, probably a few too many because they were in his "office". XOXO to all of you!
