Uncle Charles, Aunt Ginger, Vickie, Carol and The Richter Family
It saddens me deeply to hear of your loss. Although it's been quite some time since we've spent time together, I'll never forget how much CJ loved his family. When we were little CJ was very protective of his grandmother, my Aunt Hannah, especially when she came to stay with us for awhile and help Dad take care of my brother and I when we were going through a tough time. Then, a few years later when I was a teenager we came to visit you guys. After CJ introduced us to the dolphins that visited your dock, it was getting late, so we went inside where the rest of the family was. I can still picture CJ in your den, sitting back on the bean bag hugging on and laughing with his sisters. I remember thinking how special it was that they were so close--when we were at a age that most siblings only squabble. While reading the following words, those are some of the memories that warmed my heart... as if CJ wanted to pass this message along to you:
To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.
Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."
It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man.
God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.
When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.
I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.
There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.
If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.
So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.
And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

A SPECIAL POEM ABOUT "CJ"
God looked around his garden, and He saw an empty place.
He then looked down upon the earth and saw your weary face.
He put His arms around you and He lifted you to rest-
God's Garden must be beautiful; He always takes the best.
He knew that you were suffering; He knew you were in pain.
He knew that you would never get well on this earth again.
He saw your road was getting rough; the
hills were hard to climb.
so He closed your tired eyes and whispered, "Peace Be Thine."
It broke our hearts to lose you, but you did not go alone; for part of us went with you the day God called you HOME.
All our Memories of you; we all cherish
We Love you and miss you.

CJ was a amazing person who touched me in so many ways. I will miss him terribly. He touched me in so many ways: his kindness, his sincerity, his wholesome spirit and most of all his love.
I will never forget laying down by a lake on the grass watching a huge storm come in with CJ, and we stayed there for hours even as thunder and lighting were all around us, and it drenched us.... but we did not care and refused to go in...laughing and laughing and laughing... just enjoying life and appreciating all that God had given us.
CJ was one of my best friends and I will miss him beyond words. I will always cherish the moments I got to spend with him: making candles, playing cards, playing in the rain, going to the beach, or simply just hanging out with a group of friends. My friends all loved CJ as much as I did.
I will always think of him and celebrate his life, just as he would have wanted us all to do. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family.

Our thoughts and prayers are with your family. Charles was such a humble and pleasant person. We met Charles some years ago at the MUSC Rutledge Tower.
He was one of our patient in the DDC.
We saw him about a month ago, very pleasant as usual. He was a very special person. He will be missed.
