Charles Maguire Obituary

Charles Robert Maguire CHARLESTON - Charles Robert Maguire, of Charleston, SC, passed away peacefully at home Tuesday, February 6, 2024, surrounded by his family and loved ones. His Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 1:00 PM Saturday, February 10, 2024, at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, 5 St. Teresa Drive, Charleston. The Rite of Committal will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery, 604 Fort Johnson Road. The family will receive friends between 4:00 and 6:00 PM Friday afternoon, at the James A. McAlister Funeral Home, 1620 Savannah Highway. Born on February 4, 1943, Robert was a proud graduate of Bishop England High School. He knew no strangers and had many lifelong friends. He was an entrepreneur who ran his own mechanical engineering firm for more than three decades. He was an avid collector of historical documents, wine and family genealogy. Robert is survived by his wife of 43 years, Deborah Janice Maguire; his brother, James Patrick Maguire; his son, Colonel (R) United States Army Michael C. Maguire and his daughter, Katrina Christine Maguire. He was blessed with five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brother, Ronald Maguire, and his son, Robert Ashely Maguire. Robert enjoyed fine dining and was well versed in the many wines of the world. He enjoyed traveling with his wife, Debbie, and loved his dogs, Charlie and Molly. He was a generous philanthropist and gave to many charities and supported numerous non-profit organizations. I was blessed to know Robert as a boss for several years, but also as a friend. He was a wonderful man and friend. We had many conversations about genealogy and about his collections. I will never forget his kindness to my son as well. I will miss him. My deepest sympathy to Debbie and to the rest of his family.
