Charles Herns Obituary

Charles Kenneth Herns "Chuck" MT. PLEASANT - Charles "Chuck" Kenneth Herns, 85, of Mt. Pleasant, husband to Jeane Amos Herns, died December 24, 2009. Charles was born in Chicago, IL, attended Belmont Abbey School, graduated from Charleston High School and Clemson University. Mr. Herns retired from Southeastern Facilities Engineers Command and was a Professional Mechanical Engineer. He was a member of the German Friendly Society, Pilots Association, Christ Our King Catholic Church and he and his wife helped start St. Vincent DePaul Society. Mr. Herns is survived by his wife, two sons, Charles Kenneth Herns (Cheryl) of South Mills, NC and Louis Patrick Herns (Robyn) of Mt. Pleasant; two daughters, Julia Herns of Daniel Island and Lynda Herns Estarbrook (Calvin) of Montgomery, AL. Also surviving are six grandchildren, Gretchen, Allison, Abbie, Patrick, James and Sam and five great-grandchildren. The family will receive friends Monday, December 28, 2009, from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m., in McAlister-Smith Funeral Home, Mt. Pleasant Chapel, 1520 Rifle Range Road, with the rosary being recited at 7:00 p.m. The Mass of Christian burial will be Tuesday, December 29, 2009, in Christ Our King Catholic Church.
