Cathy, I was so shocked and saddened to learn of Alex's death. There are many times when I reflect on my years at the Pee Dee Education Foundation and remember my interactions with you, Alex, and once, even Mary Franklin.

Please know that you are in my thoughts and prayers.

We convey our deepest sympathy to the Harvin Family, during this time of grief and loss. We met Representative Harvin in 1998 on a visit to Barbados, and were moved by his graciousness and sincerity. We were fortunate to have met such a wonderful person. Our prayers are with you his family.

It is hard to express words at a time like this, sometimes we are at a lost for words. We would like for the family to know we were truly blessed in our lives to have a neighbor and friend such as Alex and his family. The words of kindness said, laughs, tears, and many blessings will always be cherished forever in our hearts. Heaven as gained an angel when GOD called Alex home. Alex would want friends and family to remember the good times and hold them dear, But most of he would want us to continue to live in peace and harmony and keep the community alive and going. Therefore his works and commitment to this community and county will live on forever. May the family always know that ever star shining bright is an angel looking down, and if we could pick a star for our loved ones, Alex would be the son. May GOD be with you and yours in these trying times and may you always remember the special moment each of us hold dear to our hearts, when we reflect on Alex's.

Dear Thomasine and Cathy,

I am feeling so sorry about Alex. What a compassionate, kind and accomplished leader he was for Clarendon County and South Carolina! He was wonderful in recognizing and remembering those of us who knew him in the past. When I saw Alex and re-introduced myself, he would say, "I know who you are, Martha!"

He supported the growth of our SC mental health community facilities and many progressive endeavors. His genuine concern for the people of our state made him a full-time advocate for improving growth and opportunities in our communities.

May we have more leaders with his spirit and devotion. His gifted work and his friendliness to all is a tribute to the best we all hope for in our friends and representatives.

I am so glad he was honored by his community this summer. South Carolina needed his help for many more years, but his pain is over. I believe that his father, in heaven, rejoices and welcomes him into a great cloud of witnesses saying, "I know who you are, Alex! You are my beloved child in whom I am well pleased."

Love, Martha Bostick Gunter

There will never be any substitute for the great friend we and the entire State of South Carolina and indeed, The United States of America have all lost with the passing of The Most Honorable C.Alex Harvin, III.

His selflessness; compassion; and unimpeachable character and authentic integrity are admittedly, sadly absent in just about every single politician in our Contemporary America.

Thank you Alex for all you have given to everyone in your district and in your home state.

We shall never see a peer to your indefatigable spirit and innumerable efforts on behalf of those you represented.

Surely, no one will ever match the many accomplishments you have achieved in respect to all that which you have left as your great legacy to each and every citizen to whom you have given so very much.

My deepest sympathies are extended to the Harvin family and most especially Alex's Mother, Wife, daughter and sister.

We are entirely bereft at the loss of our great friend.

So many people will be forgotten as time passes. Our fond memories of Alex and the incalculable benefits of his great work, in which he so tirelessly gave so very much toward the enrichment of the lives of all of those within his district, will never cease. His achievements will continue to prove a shining example to all.

Blessings to The Family.

May God grant you all Peace and encouragement at this time and in the days ahead.

I had the pleasure of meeting and knowing Alex when we attended Baptist College. We had many classes together and were members of several of the same organizations including the Young Democrats. I had some contact with him after we left school and know that he was a person who always cared about others. The Harvin family is in my thoughts and prayers. South Carolina has lost a true public servant. He will be missed by many.

To The Harvin Family

Mr. Alex was the most honest, sincere person I have ever met. He always went that extra step for a person. Without the help of Mr. Harvin when I was searching for my adoption records, I would not have my biological mother, sister, and brother in my life today. Heaven has gained another great angel. God bless you and your family
