Charles Godley Obituary

Charles "Dickie" EsDorn Godley, Jr. JACKSONBORO, SC - Charles "Dickie" EsDorn Godley, Jr., 73, of Jacksonboro, a retired plantation manager of 54 years and husband of Teresa "Terry" Chaplin Godley, passed away on Saturday, November 22, 2014. Memorial visitation will take place on Saturday, December 6, 2014 at Jacksonboro Baptist Church (14749 Charleston Hwy, Jacksonboro, SC 29452) from 11:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. with service and burial immediately following at the church. Dickie was born in Walterboro, SC on March 4, 1941, son of the late Elizabeth "Blue" Rogerson Moore and Charles "Bo" EsDorn Godley, Sr. He graduated from Walterboro High School in 1960 and immediately began his career, working simultaneously in Aiken, SC, and at Hope Plantation in Jacksonboro, SC, and later at Willtown Plantation in Adams Run, SC, all for three generations of The Knox Family from Buffalo, NY. He worked for the Knox family from 1960-2014, remaining their dedicated property manager until recently, fulfilling his every duty with love and loyalty. Dickie was an avid outdoorsman, wood-worker, and horseman with a love of the land, his family, the Knox family, and his dogs. He shared this love with his family and with numerous friends whose lives were all changed for the better by simply knowing him. Dickie is survived by his loving and caring wife, Terry Godley of Jacksonboro, and their son, Caleb "Cale" Charles (Hallie Wright) Godley, his daughter, Denise "Deni" Virginia (JP) Grant, and 4 grandchildren: Addisyn Grace Godley, Shelby Nicole Grant, Tyler James Grant and Jaymie Lynne Grant. Dickie was preceded in death by his brother, James "Johnny" Francis Godley, who was survived by his wife Carolyn Stallings Godley of Jacksonboro and several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his stepmother of 46 years, Margie Phillips Godley and her children: Linda (Jimmy) Poole, Jess (Velda) Phillips, Debra (Scooter) Drew and several nieces and nephews. The family would like to extend a special thanks to Cindra "Cindy" Marquette Carter, a dear family friend. The family would also like to thank Hospice of Charleston and Simplicity Lowcountry Cremation & Burial Services, Inc., for their care and support during this time. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Hospice of Charleston (676 Wando Park Blvd, Mt. Pleasant, SC 29464) or to Jacksonboro Baptist Church (PO Box 129, Jacksonboro, SC 29452).
