Charles Gillette Obituary

Charles Edward "Eddie" Gillette N. CHARLESTON - Charles Edward "Eddie" Gillette, 74, of North Charleston, South Carolina, husband of Betsy Cross Gillette, entered into eternal rest Wednesday, August 21, 2024. His Funeral Service will be held Tuesday, September 10, 2024 in the J. Henry Stuhr Inc., Northwoods Chapel, 2180 Greenridge Road at 6:00 pm. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Eddie was born July 18, 1950 in Charleston, South Carolina, son of the late Grover Cleveland Gillette and Margaret Gwendolyn Young Gillette. He worked at Belk Department stores for 37 years, having started right out of high school and working his way up to management. He excelled at all things retail and many would tell you he could sell you anything. After retirement, he pursued a second career in his biggest passion of golf. He spent time as a starter at the City of Charleston Municipal Golf Course and later at Pro Golf and Legend Oaks Country Club in the pro shop. He also played many rounds of golf all across the state of South Carolina under his moniker, "Fast Eddie." He was an avid gardener as well and loved being outside working or sitting in his yard year round. In addition to his wife of 40 years, he is survived by a son, Chuck Gillette (Pam) of James Island, SC and a daughter, Meg Gillette of North Charleston, SC; grandchildren, Michael Gillette, Morgan Gillette, and Madeline Gillette; siblings, Cleve Gillette (Linda) of Hanahan, SC, Will Gillette of Hanahan, SC, and Mary Gillette Lysitt (Bobby) of Jacksonville, FL; his uncle, A.K. Fazenbaker of Bossier City, LA; in-laws, Chuck Cross (Ruth) of North Charleston, SC, Kathleen Williams of Hanahan, SC, and Joe Cross (Becky) of Summerville, SC; and many loved nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Elaine Gillette Krawzak and Ellen Gillette Walker; and sister-in-law, Debbie Bentley Gillette. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in memory of Eddie Gillette to the Terry Florence Golf Endowment through the Coastal Community Foundation. Checks can be mailed to: Coastal Community Foundation Attn: Terry Florence Golf Endowment 1691 Turnbull Avenue North Charleston, SC 29405 A memorial message may be sent to the family by visiting our website at www.jhenrystuhr.com.

Eddie was the best neighbor and friend you could ask for. The neighborhood won't be the same without seeing him sitting in the sun or tending to his yard. He always smiled, waved and took the time to chat. He had such an easy way about him. He will be dearly missed. May loving memories bring you peace, comfort, and strengh.
With deep condolences.

Eddie and I were friends growing up. We lost track of each other after high school but I´d run in to him occasionally. Eddie was always the same, a gentle sort of guy with a smile, glad to see me., always a kind word.
Heaven just received a good soul.

I remained in touch with Eddie after I left Belk, after he retired, and after he retired from working all together. Thanks to social media, we still remained in touch as he was the Gardner and a terrific cook! His smile was infectious and he showed interest in what you were talking about! He was sincere and gave his all in whatever he was doing! He absolutely loved his family!! He was a guy we all certainly are going to miss! Rest now Eddie, your mission is done!
