Charles Campbell Obituary

Charles "Chuck" LeRance Campbell N. CHARLESTON - Charles "Chuck" LeRance Campbell, 90, of North Charleston, South Carolina, husband of Mary Carol Lee Campbell, entered into eternal rest on Sunday, June 4th at Colleton Medical Center surrounded by his loving family. His memorial service will be held on Monday, June 12, 2023 at Cokesbury United Methodist Church at 2pm. Immediately after, there will be a reception in the Family Life Center. All who attend the service are invited to attend the reception. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. West Ashley Chapel. Chuck was born on February 5, 1933 in Summerville, South Carolina. He was the son of the late Charlie Lee Campbell and Kathleen Browning Campbell. While attending high school, Chuck was drafted into the Army and served two years in Germany during the Korean War. He then returned and graduated from Chicora High School. Upon graduation, he began his career as a phone technician with Southern Bell. He continued his career as a phone technician for 42 years and retired from Nokia Communications in 1997. In 1961, Chuck met and married the love of his life. He was known to be quiet but enjoyed spending time with family and friends. He was also known for being the kindest gentleman you would ever know and always thought of others before himself. He had a deep love for his family and enjoyed making and building things for them. He was always involved in his children's sporting events and activities. There wasn't an event that they were involved in that he did not attend. Chuck had a true love for gardening and took great pride in his yard. He also loved to fish and travel. After retirement, Chuck and his wife, Mary Carol, traveled cross country twice, took an Alaskan cruise and vacationed in Hawaii. Chuck is survived by his wife of 60 years, Mary Carol Lee Campbell; two sons, Richard Lee Campbell (Lori) and Bryan LeRance Campbell (Pam); a daughter, Julie Campbell Hiott (Jimmy); five grandchildren, Morgan Campbell Metcalf (Mac), Emily Hiott Brown (Alex), Hanna Lee Campbell (Aaron), Cory LeRance Campbell, Reid Campbell Smith (CJ); one great-grandson, Wade Campbell Metcalf; and one sister, Victoria Campbell Box (Bill) Chuck was predeceased in death by a daughter, Deborah Laraine Campbell; and his parents, Charlie Lee Campbell and Kathleen Browning Campbell. I met LeRance while attending Chicora High School, he was a friend, a soft-spoken man. I last saw him at a restaurant in Summerville several years ago.
