Charles Bowers Obituary

Charles D. Bowers, Sr. LADSON - Charles D. "Doug" Bowers, Sr., 70, of Ladson, husband of Mary Bowers, passed away Friday, November 9, 2012 at Trident Medical Center. Visitation will be held Monday evening, November 12, 2012 from 6 until 8 o'clock at James A. Dyal Funeral Home, Summerville. Funeral Service will be held Tuesday, November 13, 2012 at 3 o'clock at James A. Dyal Funeral Home Chapel, Summerville. Burial will follow in Plantation Memorial Gardens, Moncks Corner. Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to: Northwood Baptist Church, 2200 Greenridge Road, North Charleston, SC 29406. Mr. Bowers was born August 11, 1942 in Lancaster, South Carolina, son of the late Joseph and Alma Mears Bowers, Jr. He attended Chicora High School. He was a veteran of the United States Army. He loved sports and was a former deacon with the First Baptist Church of Goose Creek and was a member of Northwood Baptist Church. He was a supervisor for L.S. Starrett Tape Manufacturer. Surviving in addition to his wife, he is survived by one son and one daughter: Barbara A. Webber of Summerville and Charles D. Bowers, Jr. of Summerville, grandchildren: PFC Anthony Wade Webber of Jacksonville, NC, Andrew William Webber of Summerville, Chad Alan Bowers of Summerville and Madison Taylor Bowers of Summerville, six brothers; Bobby Mears of Nevada, George Bowers (Ann) of Holland, Joseph Bowers (Tavia) of York, SC, James Bowers of Michigan, Roger C. Bowers (Terrie) of Goose Creek, Kenneth E. Bowers (Trina) of Hanahan, four sisters: Lois A. Aranda of Colorado, Dorothy Alexander of Florida, Betty J. Thompkins (Leanue) of North Charleston and Joyce M. Nicholson of Florida, and his two dogs: Tippy & Roscoe. He was predeceased by his sister: Genevia Sutton. Well the world has lost another great one. I remember him eating peanut butter and syrup in a bowl one morning when I was about eight years old and every time I eat that now I think of Douglas. I hope all his family and friends will be at peace with his passing.
