Charles Simonton Alston, Jr. ATLANTA, GA - Charles Simonton Alston, Jr., 63, of Atlanta, Ga., died April 5, 2016, following a long illness. Mr. Alston was born November 23, 1952, in Charleston, SC, the son of the late Charles Simonton and Marion Kirk McLeod Alston. Growing up in Atlanta, Ga., he attended the Schenck School, graduating from The Patterson School in Lenoir, NC. Charles pursued a successful career in sales and most recently was part of Chef Duds, Inc. Mr. Alston is a former member of St. Anne's Episcopal Church (Atlanta) and the St. Cecilia Society (Charleston). He was also preceded in death by his infant twin brother, Frank McLeod Alston, and his sister, Marion McLeod Alston. He is survived by his sister, Eudora Kirk Alston, Charleston, SC; his life partner, Martha Sams Kovitch (Eudora's "sister-in-law") of Atlanta, Ga.; and many cousins. Eudora wishes to especially thank his "Atlanta families" for their love, friendship and support of Charles: Kim, Ray, Vali and the whole team at Chef Duds; "the crew" at The Red Door (particularly Spencer, Ceebs and Steve for planning the wonderful wake in Charles' honor); Martha's sisters, Debra and LaRue, and her daughter-in-law, Michelle; and forever and always, Mary (my "sister"). The service will take place at Old St. Andrews Episcopal Church, 2604 Ashley River Road, Charleston, SC, 29414, at 1 P.M. on Saturday, April 23, 2016, with interment following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Friends of the Lowcountry Senior Center, 865 Riverland Drive, Charleston, SC 29412 or The Alzheimer's Association, Suite 550, 41 Perimeter Center East, Atlanta, GA 30346. Dear Alston family, I want to give you my deepest condolence for your loss. Mr. Alston no doubt had countless wonderful stories to share from his many years of living. It's wonderful to hear of someone who lived such a full life, a true privilege! Our heavenly Father offers an incredible blessing to older ones, giving them the chance to be young and healthy again- but in a perfect, wonderful world (Job 33:25). Until that day comes, you all will be in my prayers. Continue to put your full faith in that hope and promise so that you all can enjoy that beautiful time with your dear Mr. Alston too!

I will certainly miss Charles! Growing up, he was so funny, lively, and full of energy and mischief. He was truly an Alston in looks and was a really nice guy. Thinking of sweet Eudora. :)
