Charles Allen Obituary

Capt. Charles Allen, USN (Ret.) HANAHAN - A memorial service for Capt. Charles Allen will be held at St. Thomas Episcopal Church, North Charleston, at 10:00 AM on Monday, November 26, 2012. Visitation will be held in the Parish Hall from 9:00 AM to 10 AM. Mr. Allen was born on August 25, 1924 in Peekskill, NY and he passed away on November 22, 2012 at his home. Mr. Allen finished Peekskill High School and entered Fort Schuyler Merchant Marine Academy, New York University. He was Assistant Chief of Staff Naval Training, Charleston, Commanding Officer US Navy and Marine Corp Training Center, Augusta, Georgia, and Topeka, Kansas US Naval reserve Training Center Command Assistant of Plans, Policy, and analyst, at Omaha, Nebraska. Capt. Allen completed several Navy Training Courses: Military Justice in the Navy; Navy Regulations Security of Classified Matter; Shipboard Communications, Organization of National Security; Personal Administrations; Fundamentals of Navy Intelligence and Industrial Relations. He was stationed aboard and had command of several ships: USS Hansworth DE 700 USS Saufley DDE 464 Executive Office USS Plymouth Rock LSD 29 USS Tortuga LSD 26 USS Robinson DD 562 Commanding Office USS Hyades AD 28 Commanding Office His final Command was Commodore of Comresdesron 34 Capt. Allen was awarded the Naval Reserve Medal; National Defense Service Record; Middle East Theatre; Victory Medal and the Naval Commendation Medal. Capt. Allen is a member of the Sons of the Revolution and the Mayflower Society. He is predeceased by his mother, Evelyn Livingston Bullock and father Graham Murdock Allen, and his only brother, Graham Murdock Allen Jr. He is survived by his wife, Annie Looper Allen, one daughter, Jeanne Allen Ziemann (Andrew O.), a son, Charles F. Allen Jr., three grandchildren, Rachel Ann Ziemann, two grandsons, Sgt. Andrew Ziemann (Kelly), Alexander Ziemann (Tiffany) two great grandchildren, Aubrey Elizabeth Ziemann and Tiegan Ann Ziemann, and several cousins. He was a devoted father, loved his family, church and was proud to have served his country in the US Navy.
