Charlene Berlin Obituary

Charlene "Charlye" Ellison Berlin CHARLESTON - Charlene "Charlye" Ellison Berlin, 63, of Charleston, SC, passed away peacefully on December 20, 2023. Her funeral service will be held graveside Friday, December 22, 2023 in Brith Sholom Beth Israel Cemetery (Maryville), Sycamore Avenue, at 11:00 a.m. The family will hold Shiva at her mother's home at 258 Confederate Circle on Friday from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m., and on Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc. Downtown Chapel. Charlye was born on May 21, 1960, in Charleston and was the youngest daughter of Shera Lee Ellison Berlin and Alwyn Berlin. She was predeceased by her parents. Charlye is survived by her siblings: Edward Berlin (Hazel), Dana Berlin Strange, and Ellison Berlin all of Charleston; her nephew, Berlin Strange of Charleston; and nieces: Maggie Berlin of Charleston and Helen Berlin of New York City, NY. Charlye was a graduate of Trident Academy and attended the University of South Carolina. Upon her return to Charleston, she worked at Thalhimer's in the Fine China department helping many young Charleston couples set up their wedding registry. Charlye was a lover of animals and rescued many over the years. Her dog Rufus, who was by her side the last 18 years, had passed away in September. Charlye's new companion was her cat Lemondrop, who she loved instantly. The family requests no flowers please. Donations can be made in her memory to the Charleston Animal Society, 2455 Remount Road, N. Charleston, SC 29406 (https://charlestonanimalsociety.org/.) or to a charity of your choice.
