Celeste Avinger Damewood Mt. Pleasant - Celeste Avinger Damewood, 86, of Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, wife of the late Vernon W. Damewood, entered into eternal rest Friday, October 15, 2021. A Memorial Service will be held Friday, October 22, 2021, in the Rodenberg Chapel of Franke at Seaside, at 1:00 pm, followed by committal in Magnolia Cemetery. Please wear masks during the chapel service. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc., Mount Pleasant Chapel. Celeste was born April 25, 1935, in Charleston, South Carolina, one of nine children of the late Herman Avinger and Ruby Sweat Avinger. She was a 1953 graduate of Moultrie High School, and was a faithful Episcopalian. She served for many years on the Altar Guild. Celeste was an avid gardener, and loved cooking and baking for her family and friends. She is survived by three sons, William A. Milligan, Sr. (Jane) of Fort Worth, TX, Mark E. Milligan of Augusta, GA, and Russell D. Milligan (Renee) of Waynesboro, GA; four grandchildren, William Arthur Milligan, Jr. of Dallas, TX, Anthony Milligan Thomas (Robert) of Augusta, GA, Kayla Renee Shurling (William) of Macon, GA, and Katherine Ann Milligan of Waynesboro, GA; one great-grandchild, Lane Shurling; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by each of her eight siblings. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Lutheran Homes of South Carolina Foundation, 300 Ministry Drive, Irmo, SC 29063, designated for Franke at Seaside Rodenberg Chapel. Celeste was such a light. I have such fond memories of Celeste and Vernon at Holy Cross. May she rest in peace and may her family find joy in the memories of her light and laughter. She was aptly named!
