Cecil Buddin Obituary

Cecil Eugene Buddin, Jr. SUMMERVILLE - Cecil Eugene Buddin, Jr, 79, was called home to the Lord on Tuesday, June 20, 2023, surrounded by his loved ones. The relatives and friends of Cecil Buddin are invited to attend the funeral service at 1:00 PM, Saturday, June 24, 2023, at Bethany United Methodist Church, 118 W. Third South St., Summerville, SC 29483. The family will receive visitors from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM, Friday, June 23, 2023, fellowship hall at Bethany United Methodist Church. Memorial donations may be made to The ARK of SC or to Bethany United Methodist Church Spell Chapel. Cecil was born in his beloved Summerville, South Carolina on January 1, 1944. He was the son of Cecil Eugene Buddin, Sr. and Theodora Barton Buddin. Cecil, a true Summervillian and the self-appointed "Mayor of Buddinvillle" was a man who never met a stranger, loved his family fiercely and his quick wit was guaranteed to always bring a smile. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, and listening to his favorite 60's music with his bride. He was a Godly man, proud of his country, who placed love of family above all else. He graduated Summerville High School in 1962 and was a member of Bethany United Methodist Church, The Summerville Exchange Club, and The Dorchester County Gamecock Club. He was also on the executive board of the South Carolina Gamecock Club. Cecil adored his Monday cards group, his Friday morning breakfast club at Eva's, his Left, Right, Center group, his Friday night Summerville Tailgates in Buddinville, and Saturdays at Williams Brice Stadium cheering on his Gamecocks. Cecil is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 41 years, Gay Livingston Buddin; three children, Carla Buddin Bennett (Elliot Jervey), Cecil Eugene Buddin, III (Meredith), and Laura Buddin Bergeron (Shawn); five grandchildren, Shelby, Tanner, Mary Barton, Hartford, and Livingston; two brothers, William Buddin and Stephen Buddin (Carol); treasured nieces and nephews, and more cousins than there is room to print. One of Cecil's greatest joys was being a Carolina Gamecock Fan and being honored as The Legendary Fan of the Game in 2018. This was the most fitting title as he lived a legendary life and was a legendary man. I first met Cecil selling biddies in his hardware/farm store off the railroad tracks on Doty Ave. He years later in private related the following: He was working at Home Depot and was opening the store one Sunday morning. A group of persons were clamoring to get in the store. As he opened it for them, he said the following- " If you all were so excited about going to church this morning rather than Home Depot, we´d all be better off." Later that morning at the store, a guy came up to Cecil and said "I heard your words and just came back from church. Thank you!" Heaven has more smiles in it today because of Cecil.

Dear Buddin family, I am so sorry to learn of Cecil's passing. We first met when I brought his cousin, John Bruce Limehouse, to visit Cecil and his parents in 1991. We have talked several times throughout the years. He was such a nice, friendly person. I know his family and friends will miss him dearly. My prayers for comfort and peace in your time of grief.
