Cayce Parrish Obituary

PARRISH, Cayce Cayce B. Parrish, 87, died Friday, March 13, 2009 at the New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph, Lorain, Ohio. Mr. Parrish was born February 20, 1922 in Charleston, Mississippi to the late C.B. Parrish and Magalee Rice Parrish. He lived in Munster, Indiana from 1946 until 1972 and was a resident of Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina over 30 years. He was an engineering graduate of Purdue University and a 66 year member of Phi Gamma Delta Fraternity. He was employed by Standard Oil Company (Indiana) and its successors for 35 years. His position at the time of retirement was Chief Mechanical Engineer at the Charleston, South Carolina Amoco Chemicals Plant. Mr. Parrish was an Army veteran, serving in the China-Burma-India Theater, during World War II. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Hammond, IN, the Westminster Presbyterian Church of Munster, IN, and the Sunrise Presbyterian Church in Sullivan's Island, South Carolina. Throughout his life, he was active in numerous service organizations, including the Lions Club in Indiana; Habitat for Humanity, Meals on Wheels and volunteered as a school math tutor in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina. Cayce is survived by daughters Pamela (Howard) Hirsch of Basking Ridge, New Jersey, and Paula (John) Hammond of Elyria, Ohio; son Cayce Scott (Carol) Parrish of Bethesda, Maryland and seven grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife of 63 years, Bette Lu Parrish in 2007; a sister Margaret Hudson; and a grandson Bradley P. Hirsch. There will be a memorial service at the Sunrise Presbyterian Church in Sullivan's Island, South Carolina on April 26, 2009 at 1:30 pm. Inurnment of Cayce and Bette Lu Parrish will be in Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Virginia. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Sunrise Presbyterian Church in Sullivan's Island; Low Country Orphan Relief; Meals on Wheels; or a charity of donor's choice.
