Catherine Hubbard Obituary

Catherine Brent Hubbard GEORGETOWN, SC - Catherine Brent Hubbard, formerly of Lancaster and beloved wife of 61 years of the late Robert Carl Hubbard, died Thursday morning, May 22, 2014, at Hospice of Charleston. Born August 9, 1930, she was the daughter of the late Col. Irl D'Arcy and Catherine Hart Brent. She grew up in Washington, D.C., graduating from Woodrow Wilson High School. A graduate of Duke University, she taught primary grades in Durham and Charlotte, N.C., for seven years before moving to Lancaster where she resided from 1960 to 1989. She was a member of the Founders Society of Duke University, the National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Daughters of the Colonial Wars in the State of South Carolina, Colonial Dames of the XVII Century, Society of the Descendants of the Founders of Hartford, United States Daughters of 1812, NSDAR Winyah Chapter, Georgetown, South Carolina, and a founding member of the National Museum of Women in the Arts. Mrs. Hubbard was an active member of Duncan Memorial United Methodist Church, Georgetown. She is survived by her son, Carl Brent Hubbard and his wife, Lori Venn, and their children, Brent Venn Hubbard and Isabel Adele Hubbard; her daughter, Laura Catherine Widmer, and her children, Casey Catherine Widmer and Jeffrey Clifford Widmer; her sister-in-law, Audrey Rioux Brent; her sister-in-law, Adele Aaron Williams; and her brother-in-law, Julius Clifford Hubbard, Jr. and wife, Margaret. She was preceded in death by her brother, Col. Irl D'Arcy Brent II, and her brother-in-law, Steve C. Williams, Jr. The family wishes to give thanks to the loving care provided by the staffs of Savannah Grace and Hospice of Charleston. The celebration of life services are 2 p.m. Saturday, May 31, at Duncan Memorial United Methodist Church, Georgetown. Family visitation at the church from 1 to 2 p.m. preceding the funeral.
