Carolyn Walters Obituary

Carolyn Bryant Walters ISLE OF PALMS - With deep love and heartfelt remembrance, we celebrate the life of Carolyn Bryant Walters, who passed away on June 11, 2025, at the age of 91. A true Southern lady, Carolyn was the embodiment of hospitality, grace, and unwavering faith. Her joy-filled spirit and enduring love for the Lord, her husband, family, and community left an indelible mark on all who had the blessing of knowing her. Born in Anderson, South Carolina, during the difficult years of the Great Depression, Carolyn's early life was shaped by hardship. She lost her father at a young age, and when her mother became ill with cancer, she was briefly placed in an orphanage until her mother's health improved. Yet it was through these trials that Carolyn would develop the strength, resilience, and optimism that would define her life. She learned early to find the good in every season, to persevere through adversity, and to offer compassion and generosity wherever she could. At the tender age of 17, Carolyn married Harvey Walters, the love of her life, and began a journey that would take them to Isle of Palms in 1966, a place they would forever call home. Carolyn and Harvey shared a deep bond, perhaps best seen on the dance floor. They began dancing together at the Elks Lodge in 1973, where their love for music and movement blossomed. They especially enjoyed square dancing and were even part of a travel team, sharing their passion for dance at events and gatherings throughout the region. Dancing together remained one of their great joys for decades. Carolyn's life was a beautiful blend of service, creativity, and care. She was a devoted member of First United Methodist Church of Isle of Palms. A steadfast woman of faith, Carolyn cherished her quiet mornings with the Lord which were rooted in scripture, guided by devotionals, and covered in prayer. Her disciplined faith shaped every part of her life. She worked at the Isle of Palms Post Office for over 30 years as a beloved counter clerk and assistant postmaster, known for her warm smile, dedication, and genuine care for every customer. With her friendly manner and sincere interest in others, she made everyone feel like the most important person in the room. When she wasn't working, dancing, or bowling, Carolyn could often be found scouring garage sales for forgotten treasures, which she lovingly repurposed alongside her cherished group of "Crafty Ladies" at church. These handmade creations were sold to raise funds in support of the church she dearly loved. Carolyn was also known far and wide for her southern cooking and her open door. Whether you were family, friend, or someone in need, there was always room at her table. Her grandson Troy affectionately nicknamed her "Cook Cook" at a young age. Every dish she made was crafted without recipes or measurements, just a heaping spoonful of love and tradition, much of it passed down from her beloved mother-in-law. Her unmistakable southern drawl, contagious laughter, and enthusiasm for life could light up any room. Carolyn had a gift for storytelling and a heart always turned toward hope. Her joyful presence and enduring faith made her a steadfast prayer warrior, a trusted confidante, and a beacon of encouragement to many. Carolyn believed deeply that in giving freely to others, one would receive even more in return. She lived that truth daily, with her time, prayers, and love. While she was a devoted friend, neighbor, and servant to many, her greatest joy besides being a wonderful and loving mother was found in her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She delighted in their lives, their laughter, and their stories, and her presence will forever echo in the generations she helped shape with such tenderness and pride. She is preceded in death by her husband, Harvey Walters; her parents, Troy and Bessie Bryant; her sister, Wilma Watt; her brothers, Doug and John Bryant; and her grandson, Jarrod Holt. She is survived by her children, Richard Walters (Linda) of Huger, SC, and Mignon Holt of Savannah, GA; her grandchildren, Brianne Jones (Matt) of Greenville, SC, Kaley Saffian (Curtis) of Richmond Hill, GA, Troy Walters (Victoria) of Charleston, SC, Annie Walters-Rogeri (John) of Charleston, SC, and Amanda Holt of Brunswick, GA; her great-grandchildren, Eli, Alyssa & Beckett Jones, Landon, Selah, and Braxton Saffian, Holden, Penelope, Alexandra, and Tessa Walters and Owen Walters, Olivia and Sophia Holt; as well as a host of extended family, nieces, and nephews. Carolyn leaves behind a legacy of love, strength, and joyful generosity. She will be deeply missed but forever remembered by her family, friends, and all whose lives she touched. May we continue to live with the same openhearted kindness, boundless faith, and cheerful spirit that she so freely gave to the world. A funeral will be held at 11am on July 2, 2025, at First United Methodist Church, Isle of Palms, SC. A graveside service will follow at Mount Pleasant Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of Carolyn Walters to First United Methodist Church of Isle of Palms. Arrangements by J. Henry Stuhr, Inc., Mt. Pleasant Chapel. I grew up on The Isle of Palms and got to know Carolyn as a staple of The Island. She was always so happy whenever I saw her.
What a blessing she was.
