Carolyn S. Heller MT. PLEASANT - Carolyn S. Heller, 94, of Mt. Pleasant, South Carolina passed away at her home on Wednesday, March 8, 2017. Carolyn was born on April 15, 1922 in Charlotte, North Carolina to Ervin and Cassie Sharpe. She was married to Richard Paul Heller for 62 years until his passing in 2008. She had three sons and is survived by her youngest Dr. Peter R. Heller of Swansboro, North Carolina. Her oldest son Richard Paul Heller Jr. and her son Robert Christian Heller are deceased. At the time of her passing, Carolyn had seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Carolyn was an extremely talented gardener, having served as Head Gardener for Middleton Place Plantation for a period of time and was featured in Architectural Digest during her tenure. She was a Master bridge player and teacher, an artist, decorator and flower arranger. The Hellers lived in many different cities throughout Richard's career with the DuPont company. Carolyn formed and cultivated numerous lasting friendships from city to city, move to move. It is true that Carolyn never met a stranger, and could turn a foe into a friend. Carolyn was always active in church, neighborhood and civic organizations wherever she lived. Many remember her as one of the founders of East Cooper Meals on Wheels, an organization she served for decades on the board and as a volunteer. Others remember her leadership in guiding the subdivision of Creekside into the community it is today, as well as her involvement in the neighborhood garden club. She served on the flower guild at St. Andrew's Church and was an active member of the congregation and its Bible studies. She worked in outreach to the poor wherever she lived and served as the head of Mercy Ministry at St. Andrew's for decades. She leaves behind close friendships with many who treasured her wisdom and wit, as well as her inner and outer beauty. The Celebration of Life Service for Carolyn Heller will be held Saturday, March 25, 2017 at 10:00 o'clock in the morning at St. Andrew's Anglican Church in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina. Friends and family are welcome to a reception at the church following the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Mercy Ministry, care of St. Andrew's Church.
