She was born on Monday, November 1, 1937, in Orangeburg, SC, a daughter to the late Montine Valentine Stone and the late Edward Stone. Carol was a dedicated wife of 27 years, and was a loving mother and grandmother to many. She never met a stranger and was blessed with many life-long friends who were precious to her. She was appreciative of all of her caregivers, especially Fox Rehab therapists: Samantha Kubinski, PT and Elizabeth Stuber, OT, whom she considered family. She was extremely proud of being a Golden Graduate of the Medical College of Nursing, Class of 1958. Besides her parents, Carol was preceded in death by her husband of 27 years, Walter C. Gay, Jr., former Charleston County Police Chief; stepdaughter, Debby Bacon; four brothers: James Stone, Kenneth Stone, Michael Stone and Steve Stone; and one sister, Susan Stone. Carol is survived by two daughters: Jeanine Weill and her husband, Edwin Lee Weill, Sr., of Florence, SC and Michele delMas and her husband, Jeff, of Charleston, SC; son, W. Carlton Gay, III, MD of Charlotte, NC; and four grandchildren: Edwin Lee Weill, Jr. and his wife, Hiliary, of Central, SC; Joshua delMas of Charleston, SC; Sara delMas of Charleston, SC and Shannon Weill of Statesville, NC. A memorial service will be held at 2:00pm on Wednesday, October 14, 2015, at McAlister-Smith Funeral Home West Ashley Chapel, with Rev. David Dubay officiating. A reception will follow at the funeral home. Final resting place will be at Live Oak Memorial Gardens Cemetery. My Carol,
I love you and will miss you always, You took on our family and didn't even bat an eye. That should be a testament to your character in and of itself! You were always gracious and caring when I needed you and let me talk when all I needed to do was hear my own voice.
For your wonderful family, my heart and soul goes out to you. I know and you know that she is well and perfect now. She is definitely the LuckyGal we have all come to know and love. My prayers are with you always.
Love you guys!
