Carolyn Betz Obituary

Carolyn Francia (Kauppinen) Betz STOWE, VT - Carolyn Francia (Kauppinen) Betz - 73, of Stowe, VT, Charleston, SC and formerly of New Canaan CT, passed away peacefully at The Manor in Morrisville, VT on Monday, July 28, 2014. Born in New York City on May 26, 1941, she was the daughter of the late Arne A. and Frances M. Kauppinen. On June 23, 1962, she married Charles K. Betz in Morristown, NJ. Carolyn was educated at Westminster College in New Wilmington, PA and was a member of Kappa Delta Sorority with which she held a lifelong affiliation. Carolyn worked as the administrator for the New Canaan, CT Society for the Arts. She and Charlie moved to Seabrook Island, SC in 1993. While there she volunteered at the Neonatal Unit of MUSC Children's Hospital in Charleston for many years. She loved rocking the babies there. She was also active with Meals on Wheels and Habitat for Humanity. She and Charlie moved to Stowe, VT full-time in 2008 after owning a vacation home there since 1998. Her memberships included Kappa Delta Alumni Association of Fairfield County CT where she served as past president, the Dollhouse Miniature Club of Fairfield County CT, the Methodist Church Women's Association of New Canaan, the Seabrook Island, Club, and was a member and past chairwoman of the Seabrook Island Garden Club and Natural History Club. Her family and friends fondly remember Carolyn for the love, care and consideration she showed all people who came into her life, the joy she felt being a grandmother, and her enjoyment of reading, doing needlepoint and building her miniature dollhouses. Carolyn is survived by her husband of 52 years, Charles Betz of Stowe VT; their children, Kimberly Ann Woodman of New Canaan CT, Charles Kauppinen Betz of Jericho VT, and Kristin Elizabeth Betz of Tahoe City CA; her grandchildren, Charles Woodman, Anna Betz and Katherine Betz; as well as extended family of David Woodman and Janice Shade. Burial services in Riverbank Cemetery in Stowe VT will be privately held for her family.
