Caroline Werntz Obituary

Caroline R. Werntz CLEMSON, SC - Caroline Richardson Werntz, age 52, passed away on Saturday, March 6, 2021 after a lengthy battle with cancer. She fought with a determination and positive outlook that was a true testament to her faith and character. Caroline was born October 8, 1968 in Chattanooga, TN. She then moved with her family to Walterboro, SC in 1970. She attended John C. Calhoun Academy until her graduation from high school in 1986. She then attended Clemson University where she received a B.A. in Marketing and later received her MBA from Queens College in Charlotte, NC. Creative writing was one of Caroline's greatest talents. She spent most of her professional life in marketing with banks, a sports magazine, and real estate firms where she put this to great use. While at Clemson, she worked for the Sports Information Department under Bob Bradley. She loved this time in her life, helping provide statistics for football and basketball and contributing her excellent writing to the golf program. Her writing helped win a coveted award for the best golf media guide in the nation. Another of Caroline's passions was supporting the adoption of dogs and the Sheltie Rescue program. Any opportunity she had to help foster a dog or find a needy dog a loving home, she always offered her assistance. Animals always held a special place in her heart. Everyone that knew Caroline knew how much she loved Clemson sports. She followed all of their athletic teams and from her background in Sports Information knew all players and stats by heart. This passion of hers provided a lifetime of entertainment and enjoyment that she shared with many of her friends and family. She enjoyed watching any game and felt fortunate to have been able to spend her last years in the place she loved so dearly, Clemson. Caroline was a very thoughtful, caring, and true friend to many. She stayed connected through social media with all her friends that she met throughout her life. She will be remembered as a kind and loving person that had a wonderful smile. Caroline is survived by her parents, Eddie and Mimi Werntz of Edisto Island, SC and her brother Cam Werntz (Elizabeth), niece Tillman, and nephew Cam, of Mt. Pleasant, SC. The family would like to extend their heartfelt thanks to all of the amazing caregivers that helped Caroline along the way. They would especially like to thank Dr. Mark O'Rourke with the Cancer Centers of the Carolinas and the Greenville Hospital System, the wonderful staff at the Oconee Memorial Oncology Department, and her many special friends that offered rides and other acts of kindness. A private family service and burial will be held Saturday, March 13th, at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Clemson, SC. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Animal Rescue Fund, 10445 Clemson Blvd., Seneca, SC, 29678, or made online at www.ARF-SC.org. So sorry to hear of Caroline's passing. I will always remember the sweet, smart, beautiful little girl she was when I knew her as a friend growing up just down the street and at Good Shepherd. Mimi and Eddie, and Cam, my prayers are with you all. She was such a bright light. It is so hard to imagine her gone...

Caroline, our hearts are broken at your passing. I'll so miss our calls catching up with each other and I'm so glad we saw each other when we could. What a great view you're going to have of all things Clemson now, and I know you'll love that! I hope you can feel our love from up there! Rest in peace until we meet again. Love, Hazel & Mark

Mimi and Eddie, my deepest sympathy to you. I know that if prayer and love could have extended your loved one's time with you indefinitely, Caroline would be with you now...but She will always be with you in spirit and through wonderful memories.
